Hi computer ID: 538168

Not surprising with a brand new card that the server does not know what it is.

Does BOINC detect OpenCL on the card?

Can you post the first 20 lines from startup of BOINC.

You obviously know how to keep up with test versions of BOINC. There's a v7.2.26 available now, with additional AMD detection. You should test that quickly, and make sure the detection is complete - the developers want to finalise this version soon.

BOINC is detecting OpenCL support for both the GPU and the CPU, but MW is getting mixed signals as it thinks you have something like a HD3850.

I am guessing that you have release drivers as well. Is it the 13.11 beta 6 driver?

I think it's supposed to have both of these lines:
CAL: ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7870/7950/7970 series (Tahiti)
OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: AMD Radeon HD 7870/7950/7970 series (Tahiti)

I found when trying to find a stable config it wouldn't work unless there is both, sometimes I would get both sometimes not.

I guess with the 290 you might be stuck as there isn't many driver options.

e.g. I found 13.1 a fairly stable driver but my 7790 isn't supported in that driver.

Just a small side-note: those wanting to use R9 290/290X (Hawaii) on projects like MW@H which require double-precision (DP) might be a bit disappointed, since the mainstream series (290/290X) will have reduced DP performance at a rate of 1/8 of SP. While the 79xx series (Tahiti) have the DP:SP ratio of 1:4. So even though these new series have more shaders, they will not produce as well as Tahiti. Higher rates are probably reserved for workstation series (I saw a Hawaii SKU which had the rate of 1:2, but this was not intended for mainstream).

They should work well on DistRTgen though, right? As an example only, I am NOT advocating one project over another!!! DistRTgen, or Dirt as some call it, is an SP project where the more shaders and more memory the faster each unit will process. It does NOT help to run multiple units there though as the gpu will automatically accelerate the processing the more onboard resources the card has.

Hi
MW don't run (App version needs CAL but GPU doesn't support it)

PrimeGrid don't run (App version needs CAL but GPU doesn't support it)But runing using app_info. Run a little slower than HD 7970

Poem and Einstein. working run a little slower than HD 7970

Collatz and DistRTgen. working run about 50% better than HD 7970

Thanks for the detailed report. Let's see how it goes when the needing support is available and maybe applications are tunned to take into account this specific card.

Hello,

I was wondering if you could test out your R9-290x with running three Einstein BRP5 tasks (0.33 utilization factor) and post what the run time is per task? If you could run a batch of GPU tasks without any other CPU tasks running that would be great.

Thanks,

Jeroen

Hi 8390sec Catalyst 13.11betav8

288larsson, would you please mind running again this Einstein test with the last drivers to check whether there's has been any improvement?

Another question, was the card in quiet or uber mode during the test?

Thanks in advance.

288larsson, would you please mind running again this Einstein test with the last drivers to check whether there's has been any improvement?

Another question, was the card in quiet or uber mode during the test?

Thanks in advance.

Hi uber mode during the test.
I can run the test after primegrid challenge end Jan 18
