So any other 58xx, 69xx, 79xx owners getting errors on MW 1.02?

(13.xx drivers tried out in this thread so far, 13.1, 13.4, 13.9, 13.12)

mikey> yes, I forgot to take the last 0 in the URL tags ... but it's the only one I have on the project with DP capable GPU, so it's not hard to find it in my profile :D

I unchecked standard Milkyway@Home application in my profile to avoid the failing application, but I'd rather figure out what's goning wrong with my setup, it would be more useful to the project ...

That worked for me, thanks!
The only thing that looks funky to me is the lack of system ram in your i7 8cpu machine, 4gb of ram is just shabby these days, 8gb or even 16gb is the norm now. One other thing could be if you aren't leaving a cpu core free just for the gpu to use, gpu's can be sensitive to not being fed new info when they want it and if the cpu is busy crunching it can delay things causing problems.

4GB is plenty for purely DC purposes, even Win 7, I know as I'm doing it. Now modern games might be another issue ;).
And you don't need to dedicate a core for MW GPU, yea it'll slow down MW on faster GPUs (it didn't on my 4870 as it had nr 100% GPU load, but it is on my 5850) but it won't cause problems.

I guess no one else is then? Maybe the problem's fixed??

Not been able to try out other drivers yet, but maybe I should just try out the app again ?

I am just not running the 1.02 units, the only two kinds I am running are the MilkyWay@Home v1.00 and the Milkyway@Home Separation (Modified Fit) v1.28 units. I have my gpu's elsewhere right now and am only using my cpu's here. I turned off the units that use multiple cpu cores and am not having any more problems.

Just ran 11 MW 1.02 WUs on my 6950. Every one of them resulted in a computation error.

Yea I ran about 1/2 a dozen MW 1.02 WUs, & every 1 of those errored too!
Your link gives 'Unable to handle request'.

Which drivers are you running?

Btw I've still not got around to trying other drivers yet :o.

I have had the same issues for a loooong time.
Last time I tried updating drivers on Windows I had to roll back to 12.10
If you do decide to use the ancient drivers, make sure you go through and clean everything out. Run driversweeper or something.

Same story with Linux, though I can't get 12.10 to compile with newer kernels.
I get a different error though. Just updated everything and tried again today.

I'm running 13.9.

The link was just to the errored WUs to show I was getting the same error the OP posted.

The 6950 is the card I'm running on MW at the moment with the 7950 on Einstein. The 7950 has the same errors on 1.02 tasks, though.

I'll be swapping the 6950 out for a 7870 soon. Anyone having issues with that card and MW 1.02 tasks?

You know if you have a 7870 based on the Pitcairn core it'll be slower than the 6950?

***************************************************

And more people keep reporting problems with v1.02 & no word from any MW guys........ where are you??

As well as jspace a team mate of mine (Icecold) is getting nothing but errors with v1.02 & a 6950.

Seems I didn't do enough research before I picked up it. It is a Pitcairn. Oh well, it's faster than the 6950 on some other projects and I'm planning a new low-cost build I can plug the 6950 back into anyway.

Gutted! :(

Yea see the Double Precision speed here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_HD_7000_Series
A Pitcairn 7870s DP speed is only slightly quicker than a HD 4830, although it's SP speed is about 3x faster :).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_HD_4000_Series

Back on topic, I might actually get around to trying a different driver tonight!
Looks like the only non beta ones are 13.1, 13.4, 13.9 & 13.12 which have all been tried with no success!
Looks like I'll try 12.10, even that's over a year old :\.

Right, well 12.10 doesn't work, BOINC says 'missing GPU' :P
26/01/2014 22:59:25 | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5800/5900 series (Cypress/Hemlock) (CAL version 1.4.1741, 1024MB, 991MB available, 4176 GFLOPS peak)

So 12.8 definitely isn't going to work either :P.

Looking at the 30 errored WUs for your machine they are all MilkyWay@Home v1.02 (opencl_amd_ati) app WUs, so it isn't all GPU apps failing you, just that 1.
What you mean I guess is WUs not apps, totally different thing.

If you go to your 'my account'>MW@H preferences >click 'edit my MW@H preferences' >untick 'Milkyway@home' >update preferences then you can run the other GPU app (make sure the others remain ticked & that you have allowed GPU crunching elsewhere.
So you can use your GPU without errored WUs :).

What drivers are you using for your HD 6950?

Still no news from the project folk though!!

Ok now I'm confused, I just happen to look at my sons rig driver version & it's happily crunching away on Cat 12.6! That came out June 2012. True it's running a HD 4830 which hasn't been hit by this bug, but it shows the driver's ok with MW.

So why didn't Cat 12.10 work for me earlier???

(Btw now running Cat 13.9, see what happens there now with MW v1.02, not expecting it to work. Tried 13.1 but I couldn't install it, it would just BSOD on installing! wtf???)

Happily crunching away with an HD 6950, Catalyst 13.1 and Windows 7 Ultimate since June of 2013. Everything is running stock clocks.

I will have to say that when I started trying to run Milkyway tasks, I had Catalyst 13.4 drivers installed, and started getting errors. The wisdom at the time was to run Catalyst 13.1 drivers. When I tried to go back to Catalyst 13.1, the machine got so mangled up that I had to reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows 7 then install the Catalyst 13.1 drivers. Haven't touched it since then except to install Windows patches.

Ok, thanks for your input Captain jack, worth knowing even if we still don't know how to fix it! ;)

I would of tried 13.4 but the link on AMDs site leads to nothing, hence trying 13.9.
I wonder how I can go back to 13.1..............

13.1 has been tried by others in this thread, with no luck.
My 5850 is at default clocks btw, my sons 4830 is o/ced with no probs :).

I am assuming that you are not just uninstalling the older versions but actually running a program like amd_cleanup or driver_sweeper or something from this site:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29-download-1655.html. RIGHT? Because if you are not as with most Windows programs that install junk ALL OVER our pc's, the old AMD driver stuff IS still in there and probably causing your problems. That could easily be why the new install that captainjack did worked. I have seen where people had to go thru their Windows Registry, which is VERY dangerous if you have never done it, and STILL found remains of the driver software even after using driver-sweeper etc.

No I didn't, I used the catalyst's own install manager, though that'd be enough!
Right, I'll try that then & cat 13.1 drivers, thanks.

Btw, errored all 6 WUs I got with 13.9, unsurprisingly.

What a PITA, I wish the MW folk would come back with a clear answer .......oh & AMD etc properly un-install their drivers etc!

Yeah, I've never had a good experience when just using the Catalyst uninstall options. Usually results in weird behavior and occasionally BSOD.

I use the AMD Cleanup Utility Mikey mentioned. It does the trick for me. Looks like you're running Win 7, which means it should work for you. I've seen reports of bad things happening with it under Win 8, though, as a heads up.

(P.S. I managed to get my hands on a 7870 XT, so my DP performance should be back up to speed shortly.)
