ttt This thread needs stickifying, also mention of the 5800/5900 cards in the title would be handy. Do the dud ones run for long? They run the same amount of time has the validated ones. |

Hello all. I have just had 17 WU fail on my machine which is running HD8570D + HD6670 Dual Graphics set up - using Driver Packaging Version 14.501.1003-141120a-177998C and Catalyst Version 14.12 AMD Catalyst Omega Software. They all ran for about 3 secs only. Both MilkyWay@Home 1.02 windows_x86_64 (opencl_amd_ati) and Milkyway@Home Separation (Modified Fit) v1.36 (opencl_ati_101) applications are failing. Any advice would be gratefully received. <core_client_version>7.4.42</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> Incorrect function. Device doesn't support double precision Here is problem #1 Milky Way requires double precision capable cards. |

Hi, thanks swiftmallard for the speedy reply. I had spotted that error but do not understand what it means. I have been able to run tasks intermittently as recently as 14+15th April, so some wu's do seem to be fine on my pc. This is a recent problem, I have not had this occur before. Here is the link to my boincstats page showing that I have been able to run WU's through April and March using the same cards as I have mentioned earlier. Unfortunately I am unable to find out which applications have been running successfully as I can only see the 17 failed WU's. So if I untick ''use GPU'' so that milkyway only uses my APU, which has been working fine prior to the installation of the second card, should this then resolve the issues? Thanks for the help. |

Your problem is that your 5870 IS a dual precision card, but your 6670 gpu IS NOT dual precision. You need to use the 'exclude_gpu' flag in a 'cc_config.xml' file and use it at a different Boinc Project, then your 5870 can continue to crunch here just fine. |

Is there an Update on what driver to use for the 6950 GPUs? If you uninstall the AMD drivers, use the AMD cleanup utility, which completely removes the driver and openCL stuff. If you have run 14.x for example, and just uninstall it, the openCL stuff will stay on your system and the lower driver version (13.1 for example) still uses it, so causing your computation errors. |

It would be nice to have some feedback from the staff about this! I'm not aware of any updates but I've not been following MW recently. Their is a post in this thread on how to get at least some later drivers to work (later than 13.1). As you have mentioned above,it seems that HD6900 series don't support double precision computing. However, I don't really understand it. When HD6970 was released, AMD said that this card was designed to increase the ability of precisiom computing! That's weired. Can milkyway@home's staff solve this problem? |

A? I never said that, HD 6900s do support double precision! ;) Just that MW haven't sorted out MWv1.02 with drivers latter than Cat 13.1! That's to say, if I want to run MWv1.02 WUs on my hd6970,I have to use Cat13.1 or older Cat driver? |

Yes, although their is a 3rd option which someone had success with in this thread, mod later drivers. Afraid you'll have to read the whole thread as I can't remember who did it now. All right, because the 13.1 Cat driver is so hard to find, I bought a HD6850 from a second-hand store. I hope it will work.(`・ω・´) By the way, thanks for your reply. ;) |

2016/3/24 17:12:04 | Milkyway@Home | An ATI GPU supporting double precision math is required 2016/3/24 17:12:04 | Milkyway@Home | GPU lacks necessary double precision extension Well......Maybe it's time to buy a new card....So unlucky today... |

6800s don't have double precision, wiki would of told ya that ;). . And careful with new cards, some have very weak DP, even high-ish end cards. . Could you afford a HD 7870 XT? Or a HD 7950? They're fast at MW :) Team AnandTech - SETI@H, DPAD, F@H, MW@H, A@H, LHC, POGS, R@H, Einstein@H, DHEP, WCG Main rig - Ryzen 5 3600, MSI B450 G.Pro C.
