I keep getting "don't need" when trying to get WUs for MW despite a very low cache and it never automatically gets any either. All other projects are working fine.

I have an i7 processor and Intel GPU plus 20 GB RAM.

Any ideas why I don't get any downloads?

Are any of your other projects running in "High Priority"? (That'll affect it, if it's happening...)

That could have been the reason some of the time, but it doesn't explain why I am getting all other projects except MW. It is the same on both machines.

It does when you consider how complicated the scheduler is, it is based on MANY factors that have changed MANY times over the years. It used to be based on how many credits a project had, so the lowest project would get almost all the units while the highest one only rarely got any. I am not sure what the newest formula is but it isn't just give work to all projects evenly.

One way to make sure your 'favorite' project gets more work then any other is to change the projects priority. You do that by going to that projects webpage under your account and edit the "Preferences for this project" under there you will see the various venues you can use to fine tune your crunching, the top one is the 'default' one. On the top line is the number 100, change it to less and that project will get less work then the other projects you also crunch for. To make it easy for me I always keep mine no higher then 100, but apparently you CAN use number greater then that too. Change the number to anything, save the changes, then go into the Boinc Manager, on your pc itself, and check the Projects tab, under 'resource share' the percentage for each project will change based on your changes. You may have to hit update under that project to make it change. Change made on a projects webpage affect ALL of your pc's, not just one of them.

My own default setting here at MW is set at 80%. That works whether it is one of several projects, or the only project on a pc. If there is nothing to share with it crunches at 100%, if I have more then one project on that pc it shares at 80%.

Thanks for the reply but the project share cannot be the answer.

I only have 10% allocated for MW but I regularly get Cosmology, Seti & LHC which are also on 10% and also Einstein which is only set to 5% and Rosetta on 7.5%.

Your cache is "very low". How low?

At one point I set all projects except MW to "No new tasks" and let the jobs run down so there was only CPDN left. However, they are long jobs so after 24 hours like that and doing a few updates which all said 'Don't need' I gave up and set everything back to get tasks and the others all came flooding back.

How long, in days, do you have entered in the minimum work buffer in your preferences? How long, in days, in the max additional work buffer?

You are trying to do too much at once and have a large cache full of other projects. I see 9 Climate WUs in progress and each one takes over ~1.6 million seconds, ~19 days on your system. There is the problem. I suggest you finish up all other tasks from all other projects, then try for some MW work.
If you wish to have current credit in all your projects, try running one project at a time each one for a week or 10 days.

All my CPDN are on my i7 along with an assortment of other projects. They could be fouling up that machine, but not my dual core which has a mixture of other projects adding up to about 4.5 days work so inside the minimum of 5 days.

Last time when I stopped trying to force MW, there was less than 2 days left on that machine.

I have set both machines to only take MW and this time I will take the units remaining down below the number of threads for each machine. If they get down to 1 & 7, that should prove that there is a problem. However, since the cache on the dual core is below 5 days per core, I already think that there is a problem.

My i7 with 8 threads has now only got 7 jobs remaining which are all running, so there is one spare thread. However, I have just sent a scheduler request on Milkyway but that has been terminated with the message "Don't need".

What has gone wrong with this project, please?

I haven't received any jobs for this project since I restarted the availability months ago.

Problem has now been sorted. A setting had changed.
