Hello everyone, this is my first post here. Errors are occurring at Milk computing project and do not know what to do. Have restarted the program updated the video drivers but not resolved. Errors only occur at Milk project, others work well. I speak Portuguese and my English is not good and I'm using google translate. Please help me. 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.2.47 for windows_x86_64 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Libraries: libcurl/7.25.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1 zlib/1.2.6 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Running under account Rodrigo Oliveira 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5800/5900 series (Cypress/Hemlock) (CAL version 1.4.1848, 1024MB, 991MB available, 4176 GFLOPS peak) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | OpenCL: AMD/ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5800/5900 series (Cypress/Hemlock) (driver version 1445.5 (VM), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1445.5), 1024MB, 991MB available, 4176 GFLOPS peak) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., driver version 1445.5 (sse2,avx), device version OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (1445.5)) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Host name: PCdoDigao 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Processor: 8 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz [Family 6 Model 60 Stepping 3] 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt aes nx lm vmx smx tm2 pbe 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1: Professional x64 Edition, (06.03.9600.00) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Memory: 7.95 GB physical, 9.20 GB virtual 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Disk: 117.09 GB total, 62.94 GB free 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Local time is UTC -3 hours 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | Poem@Home | URL http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/; Computer ID 423400; resource share 100 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | Milkyway@Home | URL http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/; Computer ID 584067; resource share 100 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | World Community Grid | URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID 3113688; resource share 100 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | World Community Grid | General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 29-Jul-2013 17:57:57) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | World Community Grid | Computer location: home 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | General prefs: using separate prefs for home 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Reading preferences override file 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Preferences: 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | max memory usage when active: 6516.60MB 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | max memory usage when idle: 7738.47MB 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | max disk usage: 20.00GB 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) 30/07/2014 12:11:45 | | Not using a proxy 30/07/2014 12:11:46 | Milkyway@Home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 30/07/2014 12:11:46 | Milkyway@Home | Requesting new tasks for ATI 30/07/2014 12:11:52 | Milkyway@Home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 30/07/2014 12:11:52 | Milkyway@Home | Project has no tasks available |

I was just browsing the message boards here (to report a problem I am having with the new N-Body Program) and I noticed that no one had replied to your post. I saw that your tasks list indicates that you have a mixture of recent successfully completed tasks and ones that have errored out. I looked at the Stderr from one of your errored tasks and noticed this: Error loading Lua script 'astronomy_parameters.txt': [string "number_parameters: 4..."]:1: '<name>' expected near '4' I suggest you try resetting the project. That should delete files like these from BOINC and cause it to redownload them from the project. Hope this helps. |

These error messages are normal, disregard them. I do not know why the regular WUs would error out but the Modified Fit WUs complete and validate. My first suggestion would be to only run Modified Fit work units until you can detach from the project then re-attach. My second would be to do the detach/reattach. Then try running both WUs and we can go from there. |

I have the Geforce GTX 260 card, and with windows 7 Ultimate. And the CPU is Intel Core 2 Duo on 2,80 Ghz. I can see that basicly all of my Milkyway@home packages are calculated/crunched with errors ("Computation error"). I have just installed the windows 7 Ultimate because of a change from HDD to an Samsung SSD 250 GB. So that's also why Boinc and the NVidia drivers is brand new (Boinc ver.7.2.42 (x64) and NVIDIA ver. 340.52). Erhm...Is a old member of Seti@home, but new to Milkyway@home. Hope you can sort this problem out with "Computation Error" somehow if possible. BTW, is it possible to have some kind of graphic or screensaver to Milkyway@home? Plus, where can you see the result of the 3D model of the universe? I have 3D Studio Max, and Maya, and Google Earth is that's possible to view with it. But I guess you're using some other kind of software to view it. Thanks... Regards from Tom Pedersen |

You may need to downgrade them to crunch effectively. Drivers are developed for gamers, not crunchers, and newer is not necessarily better. There is no screensaver for this project. |

okay. I'll think I will be quitting this project for this time. I didnt know I could not use my card/or the newest NVIDIA card drivers for Milkyway@home. If I get a newer graphiccard, I have a go again and see if I can run the project and do a little contribution for the project. But right now, I think I stick for the newest driver because of games, Photoshop and 3D programes ect. Thanks for the answer. Tom |

Hi, I'm having a similar issue. All of my WU are dying after about 60 seconds of processing with computational errors. I have reset the project, detached and reattached the project, rebooted the PC. Currently my list is showing over 3000 error state work unit. I have a Windows 8.1 64bit system running BONIC Manager 7.4.27. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on? Thank You Doug |

Ok Please ignore the above message. I have found the solution..... There was a file in c:\programdata\BONIC\Slots\7 that I could not delete, even after a couple of reboots. I booted a Linux live CD and deleted the file. The WUs now seem to be running correctly. Doug |

I'm new to the MilkyWay project, but have been doing WCG and Seti for a long time. With Milky the majority of my WU's error out with Computational Errors within less than 5 seconds of starting. A few seem to complete just fine however, if they get past those first few seconds, since I am accumulating some points. The problem seems to be present in all types of WU's, not just one variety. I am running on a MacBook Pro, with Intel I7 processor, 2.6 GHz, 16 GB Memory, and 4 processor cores. I see by this thread that others have this problem, but are running on Windows and not a Mac. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

Running units here requires a 'double precision' gpu, your Device 'HD Graphics 4000' (Intel:0x1024400) (CL_DEVICE_TYPE_GPU) does NOT have that. Your valid tasks on that machine, 597828, are being run on the cpu. It appears that MW is not seeing your Nvidia 650 gpu, but is seeing your Intel i7's built in gpu instead. Maybe you could do a 'cc_config.xml' file with an exclude section in it like this: <cc_config> <options> <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> <exclude_gpu> <url>http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/</url> <device_num>1</device_num> [<type>intel_gpu</type>] </exclude_gpu> </options> </cc_config> This would tell Boinc to NOT use the Intel gpu for crunching. |

Mikey, I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm new to the MacBook and don't know how to implement what you suggest. When my son comes home for Xmas, I'll see if he can help me, since he's been using the MacBook for a long time and is pretty knowledgeable. I seem to remember that at one time there was a configuration parameter that could be set to prevent using the GPU. Maybe I can find that to turn these WU's off. I wonder if there are enough Mac users that someone who knows the programming, could modify the engine to switch to the nVidia GPU from the Intel one for these WU's? Thanks, again, Phil |

Mikey, I think that will work. |

Hi Phil, I'm also having the same problem as you. # my mac looks identical as yours, except OS version. Unfortunately, the use of <exclude_gpu> doesn't work, at least for me. It's known problem and on discussion at the Application Code Discussion board http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/forum_thread.php?id=3534. Seemingly, it is a problem in the MW application, which doesn't expected the way Apple implemented OpenCL for multiple type of GPUs on Mac. As far as I know, some other projects can run OpenCL apps properly on the mac. So, I hope it won't take long to address the issue. I seem to remember that at one time there was a configuration parameter that could be set to prevent using the GPU. Maybe I can find that to turn these WU's off. I did below to make MW not asking for NVIDIA tasks. - On BOINC Manager of the mac,
- From your account page on this site,
3. Uncheck [Use NVIDIA GPU] for the location. ( in [MilkyWay@Home preferences] ) # Changes become active after [update] - On BOINC Manager of the mac,
5. Do [Allow new task] for MW.
- Then do step 4 above.

Tommy, Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try it. I just noticed that my seti@home WU's run fine with the Intel GPU using OpenCL, so I guess it really must be a problem with the MW WU's Phil |

Tommy, Seti often farms out stuff like that to other projects to 'make it work', then Seti perfects it and makes it available to their users. Seems as though MW didn't get the memo on the 'perfection' part. |
