hello folks, i would like to know which maximum temperature you would allow your gpu to have before you d change sth (in a 24/7 cruncher setting, i.e. 99% load) mine is at a constant 69-70°, and while that seems to be a fairly normal value among cards on full load I wonder at what point i should start to worry about the health of the card thanks for the help! khryl |

hello folks, Mid 70's is okay, 80+ is too high, yours seems to be in the ideal range. Some of mine hit the 80+ number for a few seconds when they are being pushed really hard right at the end of the unit, but then they drop down into the low 70's again at the start of the next unit. Some projects push the gpu really hard, some not so much, keep an eye on the temps as high ones will shorten the life of your gpu! I use MSIAfterburner on all of my machines, it works for both AMD and Nvidia gpu's, as it can automatically speed up or lower the fan speed based on temps. There are also user configurable settings if you choose. |

thanks! good to hear that i use the combination of afterburner (for settings and fan speed) and gpu z for monitoring. |

thanks! Yup I use both too. |

oh gawd i just learned (by installing hwinfo64) that my vram hits 102°C when i crunch mw@home :o and i couldnt notice because gpuz only shows the core temp |

oh gawd i just learned (by installing hwinfo64) that my vram hits 102°C when i crunch mw@home :o That's not good either! Mine is in the mid 60's but I don't run m@home except on gpu's and even then only sometimes. A can of compressed air, NOT an air compressor, might do wonders for your pc. Just make sure you turn it off and take it outside someplace or the dust will stay in the house. You can think of it as 'recycling', ie putting the dust back where it came from. |

uh i did it with an air compressor^^ temps peak at 90° now. thats still way too high, right? |

uh i did it with an air compressor^^ Air compressor is bad as it is really easy to overspin the fans, but yes 90C is still WAY too high. |

Turn your memory speed down when crunching MW, it is not needed and only serves to create heat. |

Turn your memory speed down when crunching MW, it is not needed and only serves to create heat. i would love to do that, but the only thing i can actually change is my clock speed. memory clock is unlocked, but whenever i press apply, nothing happens. (cant even change from 1550 to 1549 or 1540, you get the point) i have no idea why it wont let me adjust memory clock |

i have finally managed to lower memory clock with VBE7 + atiwinflash to 1050mhz but it didnt really change anything. temperatures still at around 89° |

try lowering the ram Voltage, as power consumption is proportional too V^2 |

use TThrottle. You can set a max temp and Tthrottle will "throttle" down your GPU to keep it under the target. I'm running 3GPU with a target of 80C. Otherwise they go over 100C and go in thermal shutdown. |
