Dear Milkyway team, on your homepage you wrote "Due to the longer WU calculation time we've reduced the WU queue to 8 (from 20). Let us know if this causes any problems." So I'd like to inform you there are problems. My AMD Phenom X4 9850 plus Windows XP x64 permanently run out of tasks, although the system isn't overclocked. Perhaps it's a combination of short crunchtime and temporary downtimes of the server. Imagine what this means for even faster systems like QX9770 or an Opteron server with 4 sockets and 16 cores. A strategy which allows the number of WUs depended of the number of cores or at least the benchmark of the BOINC manager would be the smarter way here. Please think about :) CU |
