I have some important news. It seems that all of the linux 32bit binaries are failing. These account for 2k of the 70k returned results so far. I do not think it is the binaries that are at fault since I am getting error returns from them (which I wouldn't if it was the binaries failing on startup). It seems that most of the errors are due to outdated libraries from very old versions of linux.

When compiling our binaries, we use the oldest supported version of ubuntu. However, there is still a large user base for versions older than these. A lot of these seem to coincide with linux 32 bit users. Sending out failing workunits would be a waste of extremely valuable volunteer computer time that could be put to use serving other projects. Therefore, we will be deprecating the Linux 32bit version and will not be releasing them in the future.

Well, 64-bit IS the future -for those of us that have the hardware that is capable of running a 64-bit OS.

For those of us who, for nostalgic reasons, try to cling to our old hardware it would be nice when the apps check first for the kernel version and installed libraries, if possible, and then come with a comprehensible advice on how to run the app on that hardware when all is not well.

If and when you have 64-bit hardware that does not run on x86-64 architecture however (e.g. ARM64), you are still left in the cold.

What impact does this have on the Raspberry Pi (32-bit)?

Some info that may or may not be relevant to this post:
My Linux Mint 17 32-bit has shown recent clutches of errors on 1.52 N-body - in fact all the N-body units have failed since 11 Sept, though - but the opencl versions of Separation modfit (1.36) and MW@home (1.02) have been consistently OK.

All the N-body fails have been reporting as computing errors but at 00:00:00 elapsed time, which I'd have tagged as a startup error.

The failures don't look as if they go back far, and the error start date did not coincide with a system update at my end.

I had a pretty difficult time getting nvidia driver versions working on any distro (it seems to be a lottery getting a working combo of cuda, opencl, kernel and nvidia drivers), and the 32-bit Mint build was the first that worked. It probably took a week to get opencl working, so I don't plan to rebuild soon.

When are you proposing to cease distributing 32-bit?

May I suggest a -static executable for linux 32 ?
IMHO should be the most reliable solution for all linux executables, because of the babel of linux distributions.

So, since I am switching from Microsoft Windows to Linux Mint on a 32-bit computer that still runs great, you want me to buy a 64-bit computer to run this program. Sorry, no. My next computer will be a 64-bit, but not now. It been a fun 5 years. Bye.
