I hope the prospect of getting the #1 spot here back was worth it...

Believe it or not that had nothing to do with it

Then what was the justification for going public rather than handling privately?

I PM'ed Crunch 1 time to see if he might open up a little to me & congratulated him on his output here, I guess he took it as wanting something more from him and never replied back to me.

He also stated several times in the Forum he was doing it to basically make up for Credits he was losing elsewhere or going to lose because of the Credit Cop's I took it as. He also stated to people that Life's not fair sometimes which has been used in the credit discussions too.

So basically he was Flaunting what he was doing to the point of almost daring anybody to do something about it and that simply didn't sit well with me ... Life's not fair sometimes isn't it ... :)

Why do you hide your computers?

Because I choose to, always have since I joined the BOINC Projects & probably always will

Unless you have some sort of Non-Disclosure Agreement, I don't see what it gains you (to hide). It definitely doesn't "cost you" by showing, unless you are doing it to be super-secret so nobody knows that you've added a computer, or perhaps optimized an application (equivalent to adding computers or overclocking).

As to the new HostID, is there absolutely no other way a new HostID could be created? I know that when Einstein's servers were down and I was in the midst of trying to first attach my Pentium 4 host over there, I was stuck in the "Project Initialization" phase and two HostIDs were created for my computer. I certainly would dislike being called a "cheater" because of that...

It gains me nothing to hide them and it gains me nothing to show them either, so other than to irritate people like you because I won't show them theres no other reason I do it. All my Computers run the application the project sends them, the project can verify that if need be too. As far as them being Overclocking goes thats my business only.

But I will show this Box of mine to you so you can see it runs the stock application that the project sends out.

As to the new HostID, is there absolutely no other way a new HostID could be created?

Little do you know Brian, it must be able to be done or Crunch3r wouldn't have been able to do it, some Projects you can do that & some you can't, this is one you can ... Personally I haven't tried it here because theres been no need to on my part to have to ...

That is still not a justification for it in my eyes... You had to have known that he was involved in optimizations. You had to have known it could have been legitimate. I'm sure you don't care about my opinion, and that's your right to not care...

I have to go take care of figuring out what benefits I want to sign up for with my new job, which is definitely more important than this...

Goodnight...

LOL ... Goodnight Brian, as usual it was good discussing things with you ... :)

PS: If I didn't care about your opinion I wouldn't reply to you at all Brian, it's respected by me and I read your Posts in other Forums too just to see what you have to say about things.

I'm not "irritated" at you for that, per se. It hampers people's ability to try to troubleshoot problems if you were to post something asking for help. It also hampers those of us who might browse a list of computers owned by someone with a high Recent Average Credit to see if they own a system similar to ours or if they own one that we may be thinking about buying, so that could be an "irritation"...

But I will show this Box of mine to you so you can see it runs the stock application that the project sends out.

I didn't want you to show me a computer, and if you're going to declare that you only do that to irritate people, at least have the courage of your convictions and be consistent about it and thumb your virtual nose at people all the time.

That's my irritation with you on this, the inconsistency. Over at Cosmology, you told me that Saenger would be back because eventually that project would be giving out 1 more credit per hour than another project, implying that it was/is a failing/shortcoming. Now we have what you did, because someone was getting more than someone else, even though they appear to have gotten it completely legitimately.

In short, you were ignorant of what was really going on, and that annoyed you. And with no evidence of *any* wrong-doing, you complained anyway.

I do believe we have something more here than 1 more Credit even if he was getting the Credits Legally. Was he not a Project Developer, did the Project not turn down using his application, did he not choose to use it anyway without the Projects knowledge and slid it in while Travis was gone. To me that violated the Trust the Project put in him as an Developer for the Project.

But of course none of that makes any difference does it because he according to you and others was in his right to do as he pleased. This isn't the first time he's been involved in controversy nor will it be the last I suspect because you can't put a Wolf in the pen to Guard the Sheep now can you ...

Because thats what you have, no matter what anybody says you feel your right & refuse to see anything else but your convictions and keep trying to hammer them into the person your arguing withs head until they succumb to the sheer monotony of it all ...

I knew what he was doing & had no doubt he was using an Highly Optimized Client, but the Project didn't have a clue to what he was up to & had in fact turned down the Client for whatever reason.

More malicious implications of wrong-doing, without any real evidence. You really need to facts straight before posting more nonsense.

Which you didn't know at the time, and so does not apply.

Anyway, I don't think there is much more to be said. The project has spoken, the damage has been done. BOINC has been made less because of it. Sad.

Quite often I will say that I'm very rarely right, but I'm not always wrong. There's a difference between that point of view and one that states that "I am not always right, but I am never wrong."

I would suggest that you focus that high-powered perception upon yourself...

Oh, and yes, a census taker did try to test me once too... ;-)

As I said, "unless I missed something", I did not see the wrong-doing. If the application was not to be allowed, then that puts a whole different perspective on things. Since you cannot speak for the project, I cannot go on your word. No offense, but that's just the way it is.

If Travis is willing to state that the application was not supposed to be used at all, then I am willing to entertain the notion that wrong-doing did in fact take place. Otherwise, all of this is just speculation and I still believe in "innocent until proven guilty".

I mean it this time.... goodnight...

I in no way said that the Project told him not to use the Application, that I don't know anything about so don't put words in my mouth Brian. I said the Project turned down using his application & I was just going by what Crunch3r said himself and other Information I had at the time.

Goodnight too, way past my bedtime ... :)
