Hey Everyone,

We will be doing some server maintenance over the next day or two. This should not effect work unit generation, but the website may run slow or be down for short periods of time. Feel free to report any issues you notice by replying to this post.

We plan on rolling out HTTPS support for the site (I know we are a bit behind the times on this) and updating all of the BOINC libraries on the server (so maybe expanded GPU support) over the next couple days.

As usual with updates, we expect things to be a bit bumpy for the next couple days, please bear with us while we work through everything.

Thanks for your continued support.

Oh, expanded GPU support, yes, please! I haven't been applying my R9 290X here because I don't have the time anymore to keep up witht he app_info files and such. Best of luck with the updates, I'll be checking back~!

Looks like the website went down some time last night. Seems to be working again for now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Still quite a bit of work to do on our end so it might take a little longer than expected to get all of the updates done.

I will post again when the updates are done.

I've got about 60 tasks "Ready to Report". I guess this is a symptom of the server maintenance? Or did M@H knock off early for the long US holiday weekend? :D

Same here. Probably due to the maintenance. Hopefully it will be up soon.

The Server Status Page shows everything but the website as being down, and the transitioner is reporting a 13 hour backlog. Guessing this is just another symptom of maintenance, but it's rather annoying seeing my 25 WU's all dressed up and not having anywhere to go!

Keep refreshing the status page if you're interested, I guess.

We all eagerly await the return of your services, Jake. I understand these things take time...

Hey, Is there some way for the server to upload some extra tasks to users, in advance, based on their completion rate and the expected outage window? It would also be good to be able to request an extra day or week's worth, in case of expected or unexpected client side connection issues.

This is dependent on your BOINC settings. In the Computing Preferences window, you can choose how many days worth of work your computer will store in advance. The server cannot "force" more work to your machine before a planned outage, although you can request more work through your preferences if you know about the outage in advance.

Yes -- the server status indicates as of 2:30PM PDT that the server is undergoing maintenance -- lots of red.

(so maybe expanded GPU support)

Hi Jake,
In regards to expanding the GPU support, I had to copy & paste a config file into my BOINC folder to get my Radeon R9 390 to work with M@H. If you perform this update, will I need to remove that config file?

Thank you

Status unchanged at 11:30PM -- only the web page and upload/download remain live -- so no reporting of work units.

Status STILL unchanged at 1:30PM PDT Sunday.

Perhaps, since it seems pretty obvious that the maintenance process has encountered some unexpected issues, some one from the project might provide some information for folks here regarding a revised plan.

Yes that's the hope! The Server side software here at MW hadn't been updated in a while as all the tweaks each Project makes can be extensive and require those changes to be redone with each upgrade. Also the new Server software from Boinc itself often renames directories, moves things from this directory to that directory and even uses new programming languages, so just copying and pasting won't work. All that means it can be a HUGE job and as long as the Project is 'working' Projects don't always have the money to spend on the 'upgrades'. MW is to be commended for doing this and for keeping the Project running in the process!!

Yeah, and it would have been quite nice if someone had bother'd to put out a 'notice' to all users that MW@H would be undergoing work over the long weekend.

A note on the home page doesn't reach everyone, certainly not in time to take precautionary actions like an increase in cache to cover the downtime.
Regards,
Cliff.

I hope that the project's servers get turned back on before my finished tasks time out on 8 June. No work has been done for the project since the server upgrade started and I finished my daily quota for my 4 GPU cards. Having the up/download servers still running is moot for me since I can't get any more work until I can report my quota of finished tasks. Would be nice if the project administrators would give us an expected completion date for the server upgrade.

After some of the other Projects etc have done that and then been BLASTED by some people for then missing them I don't see too much of that happening any more. NO not EVERYONE blasted them, but enough did that giving even possible time frames doesn't turn out well.
