I'm asking as well. I can't crunch the 40 WUs the project sends to my computer in the 3 days that you give me. And it crunches 24/7. |

Yeah, I wanna know too, finally. The new app is now already promised since 2 weeks and was determined to be released this week. Nothing yet happened and only one, two days to go (depends how you see the week ends). I had much faith and patience with the project, but somehow it will decrease when nothing happends now... [quote] The new app is now already promised since 2 weeks and was determined to be released this week. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

It is an air port application -- ever been to the airport waiting for a flight to be told it will board in 20 minutes -- you come back in 20 minutes and ask status and are told, status is the same it will board in 20 minutes. Same thing here. Perhaps they are revising the design so that the new release runs more than the fruitless 5 minutes -- which hammers their servers and results in their being NO WORK AVAILABLE more often than not. Hopefully they add more 'work' to each wu to make them longer, not more redundency. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Agreed. But the new improved workunits need to have run times of 1 hour to 2 hours so the 20 work unit cache per CPU means something. At the moment, I have no workstations processing MilkyWay -- the other projects say thanks. Hopefully they add more 'work' to each wu to make them longer, not more redundency. |

But the new improved workunits need to have run times of 1 hour to 2 hours so the 20 work unit cache per CPU means something. You seem to be forgetting that only a thousand or so people are running Milksop's app. For the rest of us (i.e. Mac users and people who never read the boards) the current tasks still run in the four to nine hour range. Do you think we currently want tasks made twenty times longer? I am sure the crunch time per task will be increased when the new faster app eventually becomes the stock app and is available to all. |

*psst* *psst* (avoicefromtheshadows) From my sources (that don't want their names made public) I can tell you that the performance tuning of the new app is finished, but it's not ready to be released. Right now two major items are not finished yet: 1. native support for GPU computing on the soon-to-be-released Bitboys Avalanche 3D chips 2. port to GNU Hurd (upcoming release in 2009) Development is progressing fast, though some issues are still open. QA testing should start in december. Expect the final release somewhere in january or february. I was told there is some nice easteregg in the app, but can't say more, sorry... |

I like the sound of the GPU computing support. Which proprietary graphics cards will work with it? |

I like the sound of the GPU computing support. Which proprietary graphics cards will work with it? Probably milkyway will work best on hardware released in 2005 as it does with CPUs. So it should be a geforce 1 or a kyro card with 64 or 128 MB Dragons can fly because they don't fit into pirate ships! |

For GPU computing app. I'd say stick with cards that support CUDA 2.0. My 8800gts (CUDA 1.0) was absolute garbage for crunching. As far as the Bitboy's Avalanche chips, I wouldn't even bother. What is this 2002? ;) Here's a link of what GPUGRID supports for NVIDIA. |

I suppose there will be a notice when the new app is released. I am running anon app (optimized code) and will: 1: need to clear my current cache 2: remove the app.. xml file to download the new app and WU's When can we expect this to happen. Will you be allowing WU's already out to be returned or are you going to issue a server side cancel ?? |

And I guess we can just detach/reattach for the new app. to run correctly? A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory |

Any soon now we will be given access to the new client release. Travis When is the new client coming. Today is over, and clearly you and the team are still testing the Linux/Windows/Mac versions for speed, accuracy and reliability. |

Travis Been wondering myself. Maybe it's the indefinate 'Tomorrrow'. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

No I am sure it will come in the next day or so. Until it does, nothing changes. |
