I am trying to debug a problem that is unique to one of my systems. I cannot stop downloading N-body or cpu only tasks. I suspect I can detach and re-attach to fix this but would lose a lot of concurrent in progress and waiting WUs. I have only 4 cores on the CPU and cannot afford to run cpu tasks. I would also like to figure out exactly how this problem arose in case it happens to any of my other systems doing milkyway.

I went to ProjectData\Boinc\Projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway and temporarily cut and pasted the following executables out of the way:

milkyway_1.46_windows_x86_64
milkyway_nbody_1.66_windows_x86_64
milkyway_nbody_1.66_windows_x86_64_mt

I assume this will stop the cpu tasks from running until I can figure out how they are getting downloaded in the first place.

Looking at boinctasks, I see there are 7 n-body that take 4 cpus and 15 "cpu only" tasks. When I abort them they show up the next time an upload occurs. I assume MilkyWay thinks they are "lost" tasks and resends them but that is just a guess.

I cannot find these tasks anywhere. I looked in AppData\Roaming as well as the boinc project directories.

(1) Where are the tasks stored?
(2) I would like to know the exact name of the task so I can exclude them.

Looking at your web site under applications I do not see an app name that appears useful to use in an exclusion parameter in cc_config.xml

For example, at PrimeGrid I can exclude downloading "genefer 22" by specifying <app>genefer_wr</app> in an exclusion.

It it not clear what name to use to exclude your MT or CPU only tasks.

I assume this is punishment for me using grcpool to manage my downloads.

I detached and then re-attached. This fixed it. I waited until most of the tasks completed. AFAICT there is no way to exclude non-gpu tasks. This was NOT a problem with "lost" tasks. It is a grcpool manager implementation.

Regarding not getting CPU tasks... I only run MW GPU jobs(!) and that is done by finding out which "Location" a computer is associated with (e.g. Home or Default) then going to "Preferences for this project" on the "Your account" page at the Milkyway web site, finding that location and de-selecting "Use CPU"

Now, I don't know if the grcpool manager can interfere with that somehow, but it's worth a try...
