[…] Here, the ONLY current work units are 5 minute work units […]

I don’t know what kind of hosts you have, but it’s all my older Macs can do to complete their tasks within deadline—even in ‘panic mode’. I don’t think I’ve seen any recent tasks taking less than thirty hours; even a fairly small increase in running time would prevent these hosts from participating.

My fastest is a Penryn Quad (45nM fabrication), and this completes a WU in 3minutes and 35 seconds

My second quad is a Core 2 (65nM) which completes Wus in 5 minutes 20 seconds

My third rig is a dual Prestonia Xeon server, with HT enabled, based on P4 designs. This chews up a WU in 12 minutes 46 seconds

Finally, I run a dual P3 server, with the Coppermines FSB running at 933MHz. This clears WUs in 21 minutes 18 seconds.

I have to nurse the farm to get enough WUs, if they are running MW alone. While I sleep I run Einstein and Malaria as back ups to give them something useful to crunch.

I think the different crunch times are due to the new faster app many of us are using. There's no Mac app unfortunately (they work only on Windows and Linux systems).
Since the fast apps were provided by Milksop and not by the project itself I guess there's nothing we can do about it except begging for a faster Mac app.. ;-)
Lovely greetings, Cori

True

When the Admins release a new MW client, which is partly based on Milksop's fast code, I presume there will be the equivalents for the Mac and Linux, as well as Windows?

The Macs could run the fast code using Windows under Bootcamp.

The ones with Intel CPUs could, but that’s not the case for the PowerPC-based systems.

Sorry to hear of that.

The hope is that the MW Admins will release a more code efficient client for Macs, especially older ones, as well as the Windose versions (and Linux).

I thought crunch3r did an optimised Mac app a long time ago - but I could be wrong.

I do remember that he(crunch3r I think) optimized it to the current specs. I don't know if he had a faster one.

Of course he has a faster one. When compiled for x86 Macs (including SSE2/3) it is even a factor of two faster than the published app.

The servers seemed, with a gasp here and there, to have kept up with the demand for work until about an hour ago. Now, even with hand holding, there seems to be no work available, and nothing can be forced down.

All my rigs will be starved of new MW WU and then run dry very soon. Even when asking the rigs individually to run another project(s).

I hope the feeder will generate and distribute more work soon!

Can't get work. It's been that way for hours and hours.

Why?

Perhapsthe admins decided to take a Labor day holiday after Armistice day celebrations -- there has been no work for the past several hours and, a bit disappointing, no comment from the project during that time.

Well, I might be eager to get some more work BUT...I'm also interested what have been done with results alredy finished.

I mean - there has been considerable speed-up in work processing, more results completed and delivered back to the project...so where is the science? What science progress has been achieved?

Also a fair question -- it would be nice to have some science discussion as well.

no comment from the project during that time.

When is there ever any comments from the admins anymore?

I think I will be switching projects soon.

Check out AI's site, it is loaded with info and admin comments. It is run by only 2 people. http://www.intelligencerealm.com/aisystem/system.php

To me the science here is fairly close to what SDSS is doing.

Simply put, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) was the most ambitious astronomical survey ever undertaken. It has provided detailed optical images covering more than a quarter of the sky, and a 3-dimensional map of about a million galaxies and quasars.

http://www.sdss.org/

And by 2015 a 3.5GB(Gigabyte not megabyte) digital camera will be mapping the sky every 3.5 days, charting all of the objects.
