Hello all,

It has come to my attention that there are some people who are having trouble resetting their passwords. More specifically when requesting a link to reset their password, the email with the link to change their password never arrives in their inbox or spam. At the moment, I have been able to reproduce this problem with gmail accounts and some temporary email accounts. So far, I've only been able to get my university email account to receive a password reset link. While I will continue to troubleshoot this issue, I humbly request help in this matter. If you could request a password change and tell me whether or not you receive an email with the password reset link, as well as what email type you are using (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, edu, etc.), it will help me immensely with identifying the root of this problem. I am not asking for you to change your password; I only need to know if the email arrives.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Probably easiest would be to set up a google mail account as a -SMTP smart host- for sending the emails from boinc server. It seems that google enforces higher degree of anti-spam policy, it could be SPF records, signatures, correct reverse records or just being on a spam blacklist.

For users trying to reset passwords: Boinc allows you to log in using so called strong account key. This key is by default written in a file on computers attached to the project.
And nope. It seems that this great option has been removed from boinc.

Eric and I are working on reconfiguring the email functions for milkyway. In the meantime there may be odd functionality with email applications on the website.

Thanks for your patience & understanding

Password resetting is fixed and should work as intended now. The problem was the RPI firewall & new machine configuration after we migrated the server. I have edited the title of this post to reflect that the problem has been resolved.

If you tried to change your password any time in the last few weeks, you may get a delayed email that was stuck in server limbo. The new email daemon is now named milkyway@cs.rpi.edu.
