So there was these bargain s9100 cards on ebay and i thought i'd give one a workout.
It's not an ordinary GPU though. Its soul purpose is gpu over networked virtual pc technology and requires minimum 16GB system ram to run its 12gb memory bank so theres no video output thus i must run in dual GPU mode with my AMD R7, Provided with my AMD A10 CPU..
As far as the speed records it has turned 10 minute work units into barely 1 minute in comparison to my R7 360 GPU card with its 2gb ram.
However it doesn't allow for my display gpu to use anything other than the basic microsoft driver in dual GPU mode which is the only BIOS mode the two will function together.
When I first got this S9100 i learned that it uses server rack cooling than its own cooling fan to keep it cool. I had to physically mount a 7 watt 12 volt cooling fan and it sounds very loud indeed (connected to MOLEX remember them before SATA power?) but under full loat it stays under 64 oC which is a better outcome than i've heard of its legacy in some forums.
So if anyone can give me a way to get my R7 off standard screen tearing mode whilst crunching with the massive s9100 that reminds me of 2021 space odyssey sci fi it would make me feel much better.
But I think at least even though it is 300% slower than todays top Nvidia it was at least $1200 cheaper on ebay and yeah i had to tear it down for a refurbish it was listed as new and it didn't say abused. (how can something new be abused anyway) dents on the heatsink and even the surface that interfaces with the gpu die.
Thinking of installing an Nvidia in place of the R7 just to get rid of tearing its not pretty...... damn it microATX not enough room not even for motherboard SATA cables now using PCIE 2X card for that..

Your computers are hidden, hard to advise. think you are S.O.L on getting better video. i gave up getting hd7950 to work with my s9100. the s9000 pair perfectly but only one vid out. The fan to use is NMB BG0903-B047-VTL on s9000 but must be open mining rig not case. there is a mini display port hidden behind the retainer panel (the grill) on s9100 but i never got it to work.

Apparently the HDMI works with a fan installed on the card but I wouldn't beleive everything on reddit (i don't even like it).

i bet there'd be a bios patch to trick it to become the desktop card enabling shaders with its family

Bump!

I found that if i plugged in a HDMI dummy attachment to the card it allows other GPU's to run in their normal way..
For a card after refurbishing it I am happy to say its the best crunching card I've had.
And considering the price for the most modern cards that blow this one away its still damn good value for GPU projects.
So, if anyone finds one of these cheaply online for desktop use be sure to put a dummy HDMI on it for it to behave for your desktop and you'll
have a strong contender for more modern GPU number crunching that doesn't run as fast as a turtle.
Best computer config is to enable multi GPU monitor support in system BIOS. Some will work better with it as the primary display device others won't.
The motherboard I'm using now doesn't like it booting as primary display device it actually gives a post beep error. The other one doesn't mind however using secondary display card for monitor means no picture until windows or linux login screen and that means switching primary and secondary gpu's means clearing cmos first.(the battery)
the quirks are there to repel desktop users from server hardware its like windows server 2016 and 2019 they are a pain to keep running at times but windows 10 is all for your desktop.
Its discontinued line includes no real solution to run desktop and server GPU's together on server software with the bundled app unless its with windows 10 or below and HDMI dummy attached makes the accelerator run in desktop compatible mode..
However, extracting windows 10 drivers and using driver manager to load them it does the job just nicely and really I'd recommend a display card unless its cheap enough to devote to crunching as it wouldn't cut the mustard for crypto mining.

Finally got my S9100 with a cooling solution to be able to run and installed in a Windows 10 system :)
