Is a Radeon R9 280X useful for MilkyWay@Home? I know they have great FP64 performance and it could be useful for this project. I believe they are great producers for this project. They just use a lot of power compared to later generations. ![]() |

R9 280X is a rebadged HD7970. One should provide about 600k RAC, not bad at all. |

From years for MW It's the best bang-for-buck.. 3x7970 costs less then a half of a Radeon VII and give the same credits (about 1400-1500k).. the downside is 3x power consumption (3/350W x gpu), a bigger psu needed and 3x heat to cool.. and with fans spinning always near to 100% they need to be clean and replace when needed (but it's a problem of all gpus) Want your Kids stay off from Drugs? Get them building Crunching PC's and they'll never have enough money for drugs |
