So I just started using BOINC with my old desktop. Rosetta is running just fine, using all 6 cores at 100%. I'm using that for a little COVID19 research. Since my GPU is sitting idle, I wanted to do something with that as well (astronomy is a hobby of mine). Even when I ran a WU on Milkyway, I still did not see any activity with my GPU. Any ideas? Hate that the thing is just sitting there idle, just wasting fan power.

System:
Windows 10 32 bit
FX 6300
HD 7950 with latest driver

Thank you!

If you look at your computer you will see there is no gpu or driver listed for the pc, that means either Boinc itself or MilkyWay didn't recognize the driver, since you said it has the latest driver I would it roll back the driver to a couple of versions older and see if that works better. You are using the Nvidia drivers right?

Another problem at some Projects is you are using Windows 32 bit, most Projects have moved on to 64 bit and their drivers I don't know if MW is one of those or not, but when I look at the Applications it says they are still doing the x86 versions.

I am using the latest Radeon drivers so I will attempt to go back to earlier versions and give that a shot. I didn't know you could see so much info about my PC, that's kind of interesting. Not that I care.

I will also attempt to reinstall Windows to the 64bit version. This PC basically has BOINC, F@H, and Steam installed, that's it. So it's not a big deal to do a wipe and clean install (might just wait for my new SSD to come in and do it then).

With any version of Windows, Microsoft has a tendency to "update" your video drivers to their version without bothering to tell you. The MS drivers tend to always have no OpenCL component in them which are the part that is needed to do distributed computing for most projects.

You should always install your video drivers directly from the vendor site and be aware that MS may replace them at any time.

You can set a parameter via the Group Policy Editor if you have the Pro version to prevent MS from updating your drivers. Sadly that option is not available with any Home version.

Burks -

You don't need to re-install Windows unless everything else fails.

After you start the Boinc Manager, go to Tools, Event Log and look at the first 20 entries or so. If there isn't some clear indication that BOINC recognizes your GPU, you have a driver issue.
