Currently I have two work units that have a 250 and a 106 day remaining time estimated. These estimates did not show up until after the units were being crunched. In the past I had some in the twenty day range which I just aborted, So what can I do in these cases.

You are doing gpu workunits on a barely capable graphics card, it's going to take awhile, make sure you leave a cpu core free for the graphics card to use, it needs it to send data back and forth, and think about upgrading to a better gpu in the future.
