Very interesting post. The big hope that the Ampere double FP32 pipelines could be used is busted. And the big assumption that RDNA2 would be a massive uplift over RDNA1 is also disproven in actuality. |

Yelp...I could not get one. The search on newegg would not lead to the new cards directly in an effort to thwart scammers' bots. I will keep trying. I really want to get rid of these 970's. I am tired of having to turn down the textures and details in games due to the 3.5gb of vram. |

Saw this on Rosetta today about the 6800 Series: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=rx6800-more-performance&num=1 |

Has any RX 6800/6800XT shown up here on MW running the ROCm OpenCL stack? Is ROCm OpenCL finally working?? It wasn't compatible with most BOINC projects in the past. |

Has any RX 6800/6800XT shown up here on MW running the ROCm OpenCL stack? I spent a half hour going through the top 200 pages and didn't find one. |

I doubt many of the gaming geeks would be crunching numbers like we nerds do so it may be a bit of a wait. The cards are pretty hard to get ahold of with the current state of supply. I will let you know when/if I get one and we can go from there. |

Stock is pretty bad. It looks like 80% of AMD's silicon fab is going to the consoles so GPU's and CPU's will be pretty hard to get for the next month or two. |

I also saw news that a good majority of the Ampere silicon got bought by crypto miners directly from Nvidia, so partially explains that product launch unavailability. |

That could mean they are very good crunchers too then, orrrr there will be alot of them on Ebay as they switch to something else. :-) |

I still think there's value in the old R9 280X. You can pick one up for about AUD$100.00 possibly lower soon with new cards released. Great credit producer although a bit thirsty. |

I still think there's value in the old R9 280X. I agree my 7970 still bangs out tasks very quickly!! |

I see someone has a 6800. (Lucky buggers as they are rare as hens teeth!) https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/show_host_detail.php?hostid=872217 Unknown how many tasks are being run simultaneously. |

I also see it is generating warnings for every completed task. Wonder which part is generating the warning, the driver or the application? [Edit] Think it is the driver. See wingmen with other AMD gpus and they are also generating the errors. |

I see someone has a 6800. (Lucky buggers as they are rare as hens teeth!) I sure hope more than one because my 7970 is cranking them out faster running one task at a time @ 55 seconds each compared to theirs @68 seconds each. |

I hope so too. But your 7970 has a FP64 rate of 1:4 while the new 6800 cards are only 1:16 FP64 rate. Your old card may actually be better. |
