If you go to https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-r9-nano.c2735 and scroll up about 30 devices in the relative performance chart, you will see it.
Those boys with the very fast camera were having waaaay to much fun.
I guess they're using some kind of test which takes account of DP and SP.

They've videoed loads of cool stuff, they've slowed everything known to mankind down. I've subscribed to their channel.

Still almost zero seperation coming through, I'm having to find alternate things for my 280X cards to do, and no other projects are DP. I'll go back to the plan of emptying the database of those 13 million Nbodies. Maybe it's slowing the server down or clogging something up.

I haven't gotten any separation tasks in a while.

Back to WCG on Friday hopefully. Why would the decide to bring it back on a Friday? Sounds like a weekend of babysitting the setup.

I got 70 this morning when I pestered a computer. I pestered the others several times and they got none, and the first one won't get any more either. I've shoved most CPUs onto Nbody again in the vague hope that clearing that database backlog will somehow help.

I'm guessing WCG comes back when the test is finished and they're keen to get it going after such a long absence. Maybe the techs all get overtime at the weekend? Where I used to work it was easy enough just to ask folk to come in on a weekend as required. Only costs 50% extra. I made a bloody fortune.

I did just now get a few WUs, but it is fickle. I think it is busy doing "something", and thus can't hand out WUs in a timely manner.
I did have to manually ask a couple of times, but I feel asking more often might just cause more problems in an overloaded system. I'd do the n-body if I could. I don't think Mac can run them.

Only seperation runs on Macs directly (GPU or CPU). But can you emulate Windows on your Mac? I'm sure I've heard of people doing so. And since you're called "unixchick" I thought you used linux.

I haven't been getting any work for hours. Run dry.

ps.... could someone please confirm this app config is still correct? I'm unsure about the modified fit part.

<app_config>
<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
<max_concurrent>16</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.33</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app>
<name>milkyway_separation__modified_fit</name>
<max_concurrent>16</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.33</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>
There are only two app names, "milkyway" (the seperation (also called modfit) one), and "milkyway_nbody" (the multicore nbody one for CPU only).

Remove all this, it doesn't do anything but won't be causing a problem:

<app>
<name>milkyway_separation__modified_fit</name>
<max_concurrent>16</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.33</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

The rest is correct, you're allowing up to 16 at once on the whole machine, three per GPU, and allocating a fifth of a CPU core per task.

Thank you :)
It seems others are having trouble getting work as well.

I read WCG's latest update and didn't see any indication that they'll be back on Friday. All they said originally is that "Website and forum will be offline: from February 28 until April 22, 2022." I don't think that means they'll be sending tasks starting Friday, just the website and forums should be back online on that date. Things usually take longer than planned, especially with large projects, so maybe they'll be back up before the end of the month?. Just like with N-Body queue, maybe we'll get it done in a few weeks, but more than likely it'll be longer.

To process N-Body with a Mac you could try creating a Windows or a Linux virtual machine using VirtualBox or another type 1 hypervisor. I have Windows PCs but additionally use virtualization to run Linux and Mac tasks for various projects that require those OSs or that run faster on them.

Mac's CAN NOT N-Body tasks but CAN run Separation units run them if you have this "Mac OS X 10.5 running Intel 64bit", it's in Applications up top under Computing. My own Mac is too old to update to 10.5 so is running Moo tasks right now.

It's now quite a few weeks since I read something along the lines of "all the new servers are working well with our programs installed, we're ready to do the final testing". So surely it must be imminent.

I thought Macs could emulate Windows with something similar to Wine in Linux?

A couple of hours ago I got no Seperation tasks, but just now I got 800 across 6 280X GPUS. They're blasting through them. Apologies to anyone who now can't get any.

Wine is a program that let's you run Windows programs on a Mac, but no it doesn't do what you are thinking. I think you could run the Windows version of Boinc though, although why would be the question as there's overhead involved.

Because you could then run Nbody.

Silly boy that's why I have 15 pc's that will all be running shortly!! My Mac, neither the laptop nor the desktop have a crunching gpu in them and getting an external one seems silly since the OS can't be upgraded to a very new one anyway. I got the laptop because my wife upgraded, it runs Linux now when it does run and I got the desktop to run apps that I can't run on Linux or Windows pc's but since the OS can't be upgraded it too might go to Linux if I keep it running at all.

My point was macs can run nbody, use a windows emulator to make them act like a real computer.

I could also add a harddrive and load Linux on it and then dual boot back and forth to and from Linux which would be far faster.

I got the Mac to run some of the more obscure apps that Macs can run but it seems mine can't be updated to a version new enough to do that,for a cpu it's got:
CPU type GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5482 @ 3.20GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 6]
Number of processors 8

So it will crunch great it's just not the fastest pc around.

As long as it can do something. I used the have a tiny Nvidia GPU with a 4cm fan that could do nothing but SETI. It died just before SETI did.

I can put Windows 11 on something older than that. I wonder if you can force a new Mac OS to do the same? I used Rufus to get Windows 11 to go on.
