Or do what I did. Take a bit of paperclip and join two of the pins together. You really don't need to buy something to connect two things.
OK sparky, you're scarin' me now!
It's not that hard really. One of the pins is the signal from the motherboard to turn on the power supply. You simply connect that to a ground wire. Here:
https://www.instructables.com/How-to-Turn-on-a-Computer-Power-Supply-Without-a-C/
I didn't bother with the switch, I just cut a bit of paperclip, bent it into a U shape, then joined the green pin to a black pin. Now it comes on whenever it's connected to the mains. You can turn it on and off using the power switch already included on the back of it, so no idea why he thought it necessary to add another switch.

I was surprised to get a power supply from China which gives out all 83 amps listed on the label. I have an 8 amp supply which blew up when I exceeded 4.

The only problem is if it's a cheap supply and you don't draw any 5V, the 12V isn't so exact, you'll get about 11.5. But that doesn't annoy most things. I did used to connect a car headlamp bulb to the 5V line to keep it working exactly.

Or, you could just buy one of these...............https://www.amazon.com/24-Pin-Supply-Jumper-Bridge-Tester/dp/B09HHMTHH3/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=power+supply+tester&qid=1652412909&sr=8-11

Those don't cater for the incorrect 12V level I mentioned. And why would I buy one of those to connect two pins together? Snip a piece of paperclip off, bend it into a U shape, and connect green to black.

Well Tom could increase that number, but it would involve changing the bulb.

The question is how many units are crunched and returned per day, they need at least that many and some extras for those of us going back and forth between projects

Having Milkyway in a race would help, except.... everyone would go for GPU work for credits, and the server would fall over again. Subliminal message follows: Please. Buy. SSDs. (It worked for Universe! They've been (just) keeping up with a massive influx for the pentathlon)

At present, it appears that an average of about 308.000 tasks are being removed from the "unsent tasks" count each day. I'm witnessing between 5% and 10% of tasks I return ending up as Inconclusive, and if we assume that ratio for all N-Body tasks sent out that would suggest around 340,000 tasks actually sent each day.

It'll be a long time yet before the count gets down to the point where the work unit generator needs to start making new work again!

Cheers - Al.

P.S. I suspect the number being processed may go up [briefly] when some users return from the current challenge, but I expect it will go down quite a lot if WCG do meet their new return date of 24th May, although I, for one, will be leaving some CPUs here to try to help clear this backlog (not that my puny 750 or so valid a day is that big a deal...)

Guilty as charged. I've been doing the pentathlon, but I have 4 Tahitis (1Terraflop DP each) that crash if doing Einstein (which is the current competition), so they're back here doing seperation. A fifth one will come here when it's finished testing - been having trouble getting it to work on most machines, but one has accepted it and is crunching AP27 on Primegrid ok. A 6th one is in the post, and a 7th one is doing Einstein until the competition finishes. My other two GPUs are SP and rubbish here. But er.... no Nbody. I guess I'm helping to pull the seperation off your CPUs? I do wish they wouldn't put that on CPUs.

As for WCG, I think it must be run by one person. Don't hold your breath for them coming back. They've just admitted they can't even get the web server to work. For goodness sake I set one of those up in an afternoon as a teenager.

When someone keeps moving the date forwards more and more, they've had it.

I think they are scared to death that the HUGE influx of people coming back will crash everything all over again so they are trying to test everything to the nth degree

Maybe they're simply experiencing what you've said all along .. discovering that 30 year old easily broken, hard to manage code written in an era that was never designed to handle all the nuances of multi core cpu/gpu computations requiring a near full time IT manager, else going back to square 1 with an endless procession of new ill equipped admins inheriting code written before they were born trying band-aid solutions isn't exactly a recipe for continued smooth sailing.

No, it's time the whole Boinc setup should be nuked and started fresh, beginning with awarding credits that are consistent cross-project which as we know is a joke. Wow, I got 20,000 points in MilkyWay today (equal to 150 in WCG)! Obviously an exaggeration but you get the point. Doesn't stop the point whores from proudly extolling their production numbers in their signatures.

Why do servers crash when overloaded? Why don't they just ignore half the requests? If 50 people phone and ask me to do something today, and I only have time to service 25 of them, the other half just don't get answered. Programmers can't be this stupid.

I dare you both to go onto the Github Boinc forum and request some changes. David Anderson is well known for being very stubborn.
