The "N-Body" tasks that I have been given take from 5hrs to 15hrs to complete. This is with 16 processors on each task. Here is the thing though: On some N-Body tasks, they will hang and even say (example 10 hrs Elapsed 4270 DAYS remaining) I have noticed that when I reboot my computer this clears right up and 4270 days remaining drops to 9mins remaining. That's a VERY NICE rig you have there!!! The cpu's are now on sale on Ebay for US $171.40, but stores are selling them for a bit more $831.59 and that's AFTER a $200 discount!! What motherboard did you use to put those 2 cpu's and all that memory in? |

Well, 'caves' (aka underground cavities) can very well be gas-tight, that's where the natural gas comes from.Good point, I guess something is holding that in. I just can't understand how a rock can do that. Aren't they permeable to gases? |

The Motherboard is a Chinese "no name brand" BUT I have found info out on it... it's a Jingsha MB x99D4 here is the Add from Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224743230746 (side note) research has shown me to stay away from the https://www.ebay.com/itm/115348982298?hash=item1adb55ca1a:g:kpUAAOSwB9NiXT9s (these are not made as well and are cheaper in price.) it will come with no paperwork, no instructions, no support, (there is a warranty) but I have found out by research that the 4 jumpers in front of each NVME socket MUST be set to pins 1/2 NOT 2/3 as default. As far as my thoughts on this board? it's inexpensive, but not cheap. it seems well made, the only design flaw I would mention are the power sockets. it has 8 pin left.... 8 pin right (too damned far for standard power cables) and 24 pin in center rear. Work around? get POWER 8 pin male/female extension cable Amazon 10.00 for a pack of 2. Next is MB size... this is NOT an ATX this is EATX like women say... size matters. I have this in a 4U server case it doesn't mount with stand-offs. (case is ONLY atx or smaller) Work around? Rubber furniture pads from Lowes they are 3x4" rectangular comes in packs of 2. I bought 2 packs cut them in half and double stacked each pack to make 4 feet. These have strong glue on them and will instantly stick to steel mounting plate in case. Leave rubber side up so it faces bottom of motherboard and will not slip out while gripping MB firmly in place. Simple to remove just lift up and out. I am thinking of over clocking this thing... but as always more research before jumping off into the unknown. All of this built for less than 1K$ |

Couple o' questions for the wrinkle brained here. 1. Why have the unsent N body tasks increased by 200,000 just today? 2. One reason you might get that is if you don't have at least two CPUs allocated to BOINC. (I had that problem once.) |

One reason you might get that is if you don't have at least two CPUs allocated to BOINC. (I had that problem once.) here is my app_config.xml. It's set up for 4 concurrent groups of 5 CPUs each, and is running now. Might be the processor. I have an old desktop with an Intel Yorkfield Quad that will not run Nbody at all, it does Separation quite happily 4 at a time, a bit slow but does them. Similarly a laptop with an Amd Turion processor does Separation but not Nbody. |

Similarly a laptop with an Amd Turion processor does Separation but not Nbody. Probably not. It's a Ryzen 9 3900x with a modest overclock to 4250 Mhz on all cores. core voltage 1.1V |

Pah! I have a Ryzen 9 3900XT. I don't overclock though, had nothing but trouble playing with that in the past. Things crash, get corrupted, all for days of fiddling and a 10% speed increase. If it was meant to go that fast reliably, they'd sell it at that speed.Might be the processor. Wonder why I can’t run Nbody, I have W10 . Do you allocate all cores Peter . Did you change anything in Bios at all ? Might have another try tomorrow and fiddle around ..Mine is running in 32bit…maybe that’s the issue. |

I normally let it run on all cores, but I did change my 24 core machines to use 12 cores, since two 12s fit, and two 16s do not. Nbody won't go over 16. 32 bit? WTF? 32 bit Windows, BIOS, Boinc? |
