Update:

I've managed to connect from my Linux machine to all of my MS machines, but can't get the MS machines to see the Linux machine no matter my effrorts.
Any guesses what I'm missing?

That sounds like a derivation of Vino which is the remote desktop server for Ubuntu.

The OP set up Samba which he is familiar with from past experience at corporate.

I don't belive he is trying to set up a remote desktop from his OP.

But that might be sufficient for what he wants to do. Another possible solution but that is more resource heavy pushing desktop pixels around.

That could easily be a misspelling on my part, it could be Vino in Linux Mint also, it's been awhile since I messed with it, I kept an old copy of it but of course can't find it anywhere right now!!

Did you google the Vino problem?

pasted into the Terminal is usually all that is required.

And of course add it to your Startup Applications so that it runs at boot.

It's been a while since I posted so have forgotten what you have tried so far.

The schema is contained in the Vino package.

Have you installed Vino yet?

sudo apt install vino

Vino is the basis of Desktop Sharing. So yes you need it.

Keith, I'm just about to give up. I loaded Vino with no problems and then loaded the two lines you gave me into my terminal and into startup.
Went over to two of my MS machines, one with Win7 and one with Win10, neither listed my Linux machine in the network.
Don't have a clue since all permissions are allowed. Guess I just don't have the secret mustard..

Have you shared at least one resource on the Linux machine? If you aren't advertising any resource to the network, it explains why you don't find it on the Windows side.
Share the Documents or Downloads folder. Or just the Desktop folder. Open the File Manager.
Right-click the folder and in the menu click create Local Share. You will get a dialogue saying it is setting the share up and the folder will get a green circle share symbol ovelayed on the folder in the folder corner. Then check again from the Windows machine.

Yes, I have Home, Desktop, Documents and Downloads all shared and I get nothing on any of my MS computers.
I know this might seem very strange and that it seems as though I have not done something right, but unless there is something on the Linux side that I have failed to enhance, I can't think of anything else I can do on the MS side.

I have worked in IT on the MS side for many years and have only dabbled in the Unix side. Seems to me that I have given every permission possible on the MS side and have also disabled my firewalls just to see if it made any difference and of course it did not.

I am still very willing to try any other ideas you may have and I greatly appreciate your help.

To see the list of Ubuntu machines on Win10:
Administrative Tools->Local Security Policy->Local Policies->Security Options->Network security:
LAN Manager authentication level: set to “Send LM and NTLM responses”

EDIT: With luck, they will show up automatically in "This PC". But more probably, you will have to enter them manually. Go to Run, and then \\Machine name
For example, "\\Ryzen3900X"
Then, you can drag and drop the machine name or any shared folders to the desktop or wherever.

It is a very obscure setting. I don't recall where I found it, but use it for setting up all my new Windows machines, starting in the Win7 days.
The setting is still the same. There may still be other settings, but it looks like you and alk44 have found all the other ones I can think of at the moment. There is always something more it seems.

Strange as it may seem, when I go to Administrative Tools, I get no option for >Local Security Policy.

I've tried several things like even searching for it and no luck.

Any chance you got the location wrong??

Use the local security policy approach:
Use “Start->Run” and type in “gpedit.msc” in the “Run” dialog box. A “Group Policy” window will open.
Click down to “Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.
Find the policy “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level”.
Right click on this policy and choose “Properties”.

LAN Manager authentication level: set to “Send LM and NTLM responses”
