I didn't know solid caps could break. This one shorted the 12V line, unfortunately I have a 2.5kW supply, so the tracks got damaged somewhat, it melted the solder, and ejected itself from the board. Smelt of TCP (a disinfectant), presumably from the evaporated paint?

Are you shure that 5KT44 is a solid `dry` capitulator ?
not just an ordinary `wet` electrolytic in a metal can .

I thought those silver cans were always solid ones. The wet ones have coloured sides and the end has an X shape to allow it to burst.

I'm going to buy a new cap for it and see if I can get it working again.

The photo was taken with my phone. Samsung A10. It's not a particularly good camera.

Used TCP all the time as a kid, I was given it for mosquito bites. They didn't have itch relief cream (E45, Fenistil, etc) back then. I used to scratch them like mad until they bled, then they stopped itching, maybe it bled out the poison?

It's a graphics card. Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280X. I keep blowing them up doing Einstein, Milkyway, Folding 24/7. They are old cards, about 10 years old I think. I was buying them for £70 then selling busted ones for £30, but I think I'll start keeping them and swap parts around.
