Hi,folks. I'm looking for help understanding if my computing preferences are the cause of WU's consuming a tiny fraction of CPU time. Windows Task Manager shows CPU use consistently below hovering near 6% TOTAL, and my MW task consuming less than 0.5%. I've had a recent HDD upgrade and had to reinstall Windows along with the newest BOINC/VirtualBox pairing, but this can't explain the low CPU consumption. Could someone please take a look at my settings to see if anything pops out as obviously misconfigured? I'd be grateful. Cheers, Terry |

Hopeful that someone that also uses Windows and crunches MT tasks will chime in. But it appears that the host is crunching exactly as it should. Whether to use ALL of the cpu's threads is a wise decision is debateable. Good practice is to always leave at least one cpu core or thread available for running the background processes of a PC. With your host using all of your 4 cores to crunch the MT work leaves nothing for the OS. So lots of time-slicing is going on. The MT task needs to be forced down in priority running for the OS to get its stuff done. Just remember the MT tasks use ALL of a processor if you don't limit them. To get the total cpu time mulitply the runtime times the number of cores/threads you allow. |
