Personally I am still of the view that WU generation should stop, and run the backlog down. The memory was the same before the Nbody apparent issue. Separation run times are largely the same , Nbody have increased by at least 20 times. I think what could happen is more memory and a faster processor could make things worse until the application problem is located.

I would guess it will take time to shut down everything needed to remove and the install the new Server and that it could affect other parts of the University as well, they do share the internet connection at least, and then make sure they have the right people on hand in case something goes wrong either in hardware mismatches and in the software area as the Server does it's first boot up and gets ready to do it's thing for us. Tom did not go into details about whether it was plug and play from his end or what was involved so there's alot of guessing going on over this. There have also been suggestions to keep the old Server and repurpose it for something Boinc related, ie run the NBody tasks while the new Server handles the Separation tasks but Tom didn't say if that was even a possibility, remember Seti literally had a repurposed closet they had to fit their stuff into before they finally shut down.

I like the sound of this a lot firing up Seti again. Before this can be done I do believe they would need to invest in new hardware as they were struggling to keep up with demand.

That would be cool, we need more Boinc Projects as way too many of them have gone by the wayside

Yes it's all gone and they would also need something besides the closet they were using before as that severely limited their abilities to update or even work on the hardware when needed

Very nice drop in the validation queue. Seeing lots of tasks getting validated and cleared out and the resulting boost in RAC it brings. That tiny little upswing though can eff right off. Knowing our collective luck its going to start climbing again.
