Hello everyone, RPI is conducting their annual CII power maintenance between May 8th and May 10th. As a precaution, we will need to shutdown the server during this time. We will have the server back up and running as soon as possible. Thank you, Kevin |

I have made a mistake and the server will not be down during the time mentioned above. I apologize for the confusion. |

Should we discontinue the jobs that we have running or just let them continue to run? |

Should we discontinue the jobs that we have running or just let them continue to run? Just let them finish, they will upload when the server is back up. |

But... The server is down...Well, not really, the scheduler and db_purge on "milkyway" are running, so it's not shut down for the power maintenance (and I guess the website would have been down completely as well). But good that I increased my cache to 3 days after the original message, should be enough at least for today, hopefully we can get some tasks tomorrow. |

Look at the project domain name / url : milkyway: This project name .cs : Computer Science (departement) .rpi : Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute .edu : TLD (Top Level Domain) for EDUcational purpose. For me the question is more: What is "CII" (cii)? All I found is "Carbon Intensity Indicator" but it's an indicator for vessels/boats efficiency. And obviously milkyway is not a boat... |

The George M. Low Center for Industrial Innovation is a building on campus known also as CII. It probably houses the servers for milkyway@home. |

Hallo, As long as you had work units to work on while the servers were down, yes. |

Tiny, tiny, even miniscule request - can we have anouncements which include dates to be in a universal format rather than American ? 5/8 - 5/10 to me means 2 months ! Where as 8th May 2023 - 10th May 2023 removes all shock factor. Ta. |

Hey, it's bad enough we have to look at it in the Joined column on the left. I think it would be just as easy for you if we would have it mentioned as 5/8/23 - 5/10/23. |

In ISO format I think now would be 2023.05.23.20.48.36 Millenium . centuary . decade . year . month . day . hours . minits . seconds Depending on if I got it right and how long it took me to post this :-) |

True for we Americans but Europeans, who also crunch here, might see it as the 5th of August to the 5th of October 2023, using the Scientific Internationally accepted way leaves no doubt as to the meaning of the dates |

Exactly Mikey, at 1st glance you do think it is an outage for a couple of months then you remember some countries do their dates do their date with the month 1st when you realise that it's simple. Interesting thing is the "Server shutdown" never occurred :-) |

Except it looks stupid and who in their right mind would want to do what the rest of the world is doing??? |

Except it looks stupid and who in their right mind would want to do what the rest of the world is doing??? You don't do Genealogy do you? When researching your family history you quickly learn that all the dates are written in all different kinds of ways and if they would have just used the European way it would make things a LOT simpler. |
