At some point Windows 7 will be deprecated from the Boinc Projects just like Windows XP was not long ago on most of them.I doubt it. They don't care what version of the OS you have. 32/64 bit is all that matters. And I thought your name was pronounced cav-a-lary not a misspelling of calvaryWhat does cavalary mean? |

Would you like to suggest another project for the GPU ? |

Would you like to suggest another project for the GPU ?For DP, no idea, for SP, Einstein. |

The bat file runs the command line. And it randomly doesn't bother working. Unless you restart/reboot or log off the computer then you should only need to start it once and leave it running. Neither do I, I have a 1 day deadline, but several projects. It always ends up repeatedly downloading stuff for a project with more debt, and leaving the other with just enough time to run, except it always miscalculates the time. I told them it would be better to leave some leeway but they didn't understand. What do you mean you have a 1 day deadline? You don't pick the deadline. The project(s) admin(s) choose what their tasks deadlines are. But I only brought that up to do with what most people are doing. Just because part of the statement may be true, doesn't mean all of it is. I was only pointing out the incorrect part of the statement. I have no way of knowing who runs multiple instances on their GPU hosts who run both n-body and separation tasks on the same host. Though it's highly likely those that run CPU most likely just run nbody and those who run separation mostly run it on GPUs. Probably a small portion of people run separation CPU tasks. The project will end up losing a bunch of users as a lot of them only run the separation GPU tasks. So useless. Not entirely. No it isn't. Boinctasks is a much better interface. I didn't say BM's interface is better than BTs. I merely pointed out that if you are only running one computer on BOINC, then the BM is sufficient. This holds especially true for people who are new to BOINC. May be a little weary with installing new software. Much easier for them to just run the BM that comes packaged with BOINC on Windows to get attached to a host. As most of them just want a "set and forget" type setup and aren't concerned with micromanaging their single computer other than suspending it when they're doing something CPU or GPU intensive where BOINC might interfere. If they end up going down the BOINC rabbit hole like many of us have, then installing other software to help manage multiple hosts, multiple instances, so on and so forth then BT is highly recommended. (For Windows) BT isn't all that great on Linux. Same here. The house computer. The other stuff is in the garage along with two very loud Amazon parrots. They like the tropical temperatures. Cool. |

I do use Boinctasks (when the bugger connects to some of my pc's.) I've always got 2 pc's that I just can't seem to connect. But I'm a novice at pc stuff so it's not a surprise really. |

Hi, I will stay with Milkyway@home und prepared to use my GPU for Einstein@home, my CPU will still be 100% dedicated to Milkyway. If somebody know another astronomy project next to Einstein that has a free software license, please let us know. Still happy crunching! |

Install latest version Win 10 using your Win7 key. Upgrade won't work anymore, but clean install should. In addition to some projects listed in previous posts, your CPU is 64-bit capable so an upgrade to a 64-bit OS is possible (you likely already know this but still). |

Nbody is 64-bit only.So... The next question is what can I move to that's space or environment related and works on 32-bit Win 7, CPU only and has similarly low memory use? Just 2 cores, so 2 tasks if it's one per core, and SETI@home tended to use about 75 Mb RAM for 2 tasks, Milkyway@home only uses about 10 Mb for Separation, which is just awesome. The others that I tried of the quite few projects from those categories just crippled my computer because of their use of my low amount of RAM, hundreds of MB per task, could hardly crunch while using the computer. Why not Nbody? You can make that run on 2 cores. I've got it on 4-core machines using only two cores while the other two run other projects. |

First of all thanks for this long- and very stable running project - I really love it! But it's sad, that it wasn't communicated earlier, that the project is slowly coming to an end. (For. e.g. I finally got a VII a couple of weeks ago to accompany an old 7950) I really liked the special-DP-requirement of this project - but now the 7950 is obsolete (because of low performance / high power consumption on other projects) - and the VII is unfortuately also loosing attractiveness on other interesting GPU-projects (which are getting more and more scarce :() - math isn't an option for me, so that leaves me with Einstein... |

Hi, What do you mean "free software license" there are several other Astronomy related Projects in Boinc ie, Universe, Cosmology, Asteroids and Einstein |

Unless you restart/reboot or log off the computer then you should only need to start it once and leave it running.Should. Chances are it doesn't. I have it on the desktop too so I can give it another try. Also, you have to time it using task scheduler. If the 2nd instance starts before the first, it gets very confused. What do you mean you have a 1 day deadline? You don't pick the deadline. The project(s) admin(s) choose what their tasks deadlines are.Clearly I meant buffer. Just because part of the statement may be true, doesn't mean all of it is. I was only pointing out the incorrect part of the statement. I have no way of knowing who runs multiple instances on their GPU hosts who run both n-body and separation tasks on the same host.We can hazard an educated guess. Though it's highly likely those that run CPU most likely just run nbody and those who run separation mostly run it on GPUs. Probably a small portion of people run separation CPU tasks. That would be utterly pointless considering the speed difference. The project will end up losing a bunch of users as a lot of them only run the separation GPU tasks. So they lose people who are currently doing what's no longer here. How does this affect the project which is now just Nbody? What will actually happen is either the same people, will continue with Nbody as before, or a load of seperation folk will decide to change to Nbody. There's no way people will stop Nbody because seperation isn't here. I didn't say BM's interface is better than BTs. I merely pointed out that if you are only running one computer on BOINC, then the BM is sufficient. And I pointed out it isn't. You can't even see the queue without it falling off the screen as there's no collapsing! And no colour coding so I can easily see what's running, what's running on the GPU, what's queued, what's failed, what's in panic mode, etc. This holds especially true for people who are new to BOINC. May be a little weary with installing new software.Did you mean wary or weary? I suppose either could be true. Much easier for them to just run the BM that comes packaged with BOINC on Windows to get attached to a host. As most of them just want a "set and forget" type setup and aren't concerned with micromanaging their single computer other than suspending it when they're doing something CPU or GPU intensive where BOINC might interfere.Where's the fun in running something you don't look at? If they end up going down the BOINC rabbit hole like many of us have, then installing other software to help manage multiple hosts, multiple instances, so on and so forth then BT is highly recommended. (For Windows) BT isn't all that great on Linux.Fred seems to be mainly a Windows programmer (which makes sense since it's the most common OS at 28%, Linux is 1.2%. I don't understand Android being 42%. There can't be more phones online than computers! Most people have one of each.). Linux uses the javascript version? Apparently it will eventually have everything. At the moment, I have a twin mains fan and a car radiator fan to suck the hot air out of one window while cool air comes in the other! They're on a thermostat for 25C.Same here. The house computer. The other stuff is in the garage along with two very loud Amazon parrots. They like the tropical temperatures.Cool. Finally found a use for one of those pathetic CIT power supplies which gives more like 11V than 12V, whatever happened to the laws of miss-selling? If I leave the side door open, he shreaks all day and annoys me and most likely my neighbours (although they've learned it's unwise to get on the wrong side of me). |

I do use Boinctasks (when the bugger connects to some of my pc's.)I used to have terrible trouble with it. It's badly coded, very impatient. One dropped packet, just one, and the computer must not be there.... Try running a continuous ping to the offending computer (ping -t [IP address]). Anything other than perfect pings and Boinctasks falls over. Install latest version Win 10 using your Win7 key. Upgrade won't work anymore, but clean install should. What's a key? Should I really have 8 of them? That would be expensive. Nbody is 64-bit only.I thought all the 32 bit computers died out 20 years ago. I'm surprised they haven't died of electron migration. The above was double spaced between sentences, I apologise for the forum software ruining my post. |

64 bit cpus are still backwards compatible with 32 bit software. Even 16 bit software. |

64 bit cpus are still backwards compatible with 32 bit software.Using a 32 bit OS would make the computer unusable, since most programs need 64 bit. I see no point in deliberately not using half your CPU. The above was double spaced between sentences, I apologise for the forum software ruining my post. |

Set your cache to 0.1 and 0.1I prefer 1+0.25. Handy for intermittant projects, and it seems daft to be constantly looking for more work. The above was double spaced between sentences, I apologise for the forum software ruining my post. |

Install latest version Win 10 using your Win7 key. Upgrade won't work anymore, but clean install should. You learn something new every day. According to a quick Google search I believe you can still use the upgrade option |
