What possessed you to buy a Nvidia?! They cost more, even if you ignore the complete lack of FP64.

Looks like the generator either crashed or has been switched off. No more to send now.

I've only found Sheepit (rendering) and GPUGrid (biology) which need Nvidia. The rest use either. And AMD always gives you more computing power for the same price.

Yeah i think it was the case in the past AMD would be competitive for the same price i would say lately they have been kind of filling gaps in the market and dropping prices to compete .But they never get near Nvidia at the high end you just need to look at the top 100 computers on most projects that's why Nvidia can charge so much!

I've looked up the price of 50 cards, I have them in a spreadsheet. I can sort by flops per price, and the Nvidias end up right at the bottom. Yes you can get a faster Nvidia, but for 1/3 faster, you pay double the price. Just get two AMDs.

I've never used it, but their website looks like you can do so.
https://www.tensorflow.org/install refers to a windows installer, then on the left column I find GPU device plugins here https://www.tensorflow.org/install/gpu_plugins which mentions "non-Nvidia devices".

Yeah, not sure what happened that caused the WUs awaiting validation to spike like that. I'll flush out the DB and make sure things are moving the way they should be again.

Also, we will be simply turning off the application tomorrow, rather than stopping the WU generator and letting people continue to submit work for weeks. Like people said above, we aren't using the WUs people return right now for anything, so there's not really a point in having people crunch more work.

But can you run tensorflow on amd gpu?

With an Nvidia GPU, machine learning stuff still is A LOT easier and tensor core support is still much better than AMD or Intel matrix vector counterparts...

I am not saying this as a Nvidia fanboy, but as someone who thinks this has to change, the dominance of Nvidia is not healthy in the long run. But I know enough people who do programming that simply have the attitude: "well, with Nvidia, it just works, we can get stuff done"....

Having said that, I personally am always looking out for ways to make use of AMD or Intel cards: My Intel ARC happily is doing Stable diffusion, My GCN AMD Cards crunch inferences in DirectML/ONNX, Fractal Movies with OPENCL Acceleration run on everything I have....

So there are ways to use AMD for machine leraning, inferences, etc nowadays - and its getting better and more and more is possible...

But Nvidia still is king in this. Sadly... Especially if you are more of an enduser than a programmer - if you simply want to "play around" or "download ready compiled stuff and simply use it"...

What percentage of cards are used for different purposes? I always assumed it was 95% games. They both play all those, and AMD is cheaper. I used to build gaming machines, and there was always one who wanted a Nvidia. Until I showed him the prices and specs. One didn't believe me, until the Nvidia actually went bang. Fan got stuck, no overheat protection.

If you go on to games and features Nvidia still win DLSS 3 and Ray tracing are simply better but AMD are catching them up with FSR 2.0.
One thing Nvidia has done now is with the Lovelace GPU's is launched a ton of features that are helpful outside of gaming, both as part of its ongoing Nvidia Studio suite program for creative and professional workloads.
Part of this is Nvidia Broadcast, which is incredibly useful technology for pretty much everyone. You can replace backgrounds in any video conferencing app using AI. What's better is that you can also use it to filter out all background noise from your microphone while in a call, so you don't have to worry about background noise.
Not wanting to go into a fanboy discussion I only have a few machine's personally and Nvidia makes faster gpu's at the high end so i tend to buy them it's a preference.

I doubt many people use the fancy features. They just buy a card for playing a game. They want a high frame rate for a low cost, and AMDs are much better value.

I've looked at high end ones, and sure there are faster Nvidias, but at a disproportionately higher cost. Do you buy a 165mph car for 50 grand, or a 145mph car for 25 grand? Neither, you buy two 145mph cars and go 290mph!

Every gamer kid in the land wants to be a streamer now, that software would be paid for normally that's why they made it free buy Nvidia pay the earth !
You think i am happy what i paid for my 4090's but they tear the arse out of AMD on most projects and gaming and on gaming 2x cards do not equate to double the performance I do game!
Your scale is off for current GPU'S 7900xtx is about a grand and the 4090 is about £1500 (UK) and the performance varies allot depending on settings gaming wise but with DLSS 3 implemented you can have a 40% difference for Nvidia.
Again games and settings come into play and the 7900XTX will get better with driver updates which is another reason they lag behind on the high end.

Eh? All cards stream, always have done.

They should, you have twice the processing power. For example one card can do odd numbered frames and the other can do even numbers. The programmers would have to be monumentally terrible not to achieve x2.

More like £800.

and the 4090 is about £1500 (UK)
£1400.

7900XTX:
Pixel Rate 479.8 GPixel/s
Texture Rate 959.6 GTexel/s
FP16 (half) 122.8 TFLOPS (2:1)
FP32 (float) 61.42 TFLOPS
FP64 (double) 1.919 TFLOPS (1:32)

4090:
Pixel Rate 443.5 GPixel/s
Texture Rate 1,290 GTexel/s
FP16 (half) 82.58 TFLOPS (1:1)
FP32 (float) 82.58 TFLOPS
FP64 (double) 1,290 GFLOPS (1:64)

75% more money for nothing like 75% more power. By your prices, 50%, isn't that powerful either.

And who buys new cards?! There's a thing called a used market you know. Same for cars, only fools buy new.

It's amazing how much you think you know but don't actually know.

There is not a single dual card configuration on this planet that will double the performance for a game. There are TONS of benchmarks on the Internet showing SLI (don't even think Nvidia does this anymore) and Crossfire (think AMD named this something differently now) GPUs where they barely achieve 30% performance boost, much less 100%.

It's also cute that you post the specs of GPUs when that's only half the picture. Paper benchmarks NEVER work as desired.

I've owned many AMD GPUs in the past and always regret it. Last AMD card I owned was a 5700 XT and the gaming performance wasn't all that great and don't even get me started on the AMD GPU drivers. Constant GPU driver crashes until I switched that GPU out with a 3070Ti and absolutely no more crashing and smooth gameplay.

I root for AMD to come out with good GPUs just because I dislike the fact that Nvidia controls the market and the price. Until that day comes, Nvidia from here on out.
