WTF! We processed them...we should be given credit for them. Absolute horrible way to shut down an app!
It's just credit, it's meaningless, it's not like they stole money from you for goodness sake.
Of course they did. In form of electricity. On a lot of machines.
Not on purpose, and only a few days out of the years it's been running. And you still got to keep the heat produced. Get solar panels and lead acid batteries and to hell with the grid, you'll save a fortune.

did anyone FORCE you to run through lot's of electricity on lots of machines?
no.
so why the drama i do not understand
People like to complain, hence climate change, covid, paedophiles, all those things which aren't really a problem.

As usual you're being an ass like always.

That's not the point and you know it. It's about respecting the volunteers.

And it's not meaningless. The problem is that as I'm getting older, I'm seeing more projects starting to disrespect their volunteers more and more. And also the same volunteers coming to their defense over and over making excuses for them instead of acknowledging the issue at hand leading to these projects to take us for granted more and more.

That's tautological. And I'm not a donkey.

That's not the point and you know it. It's about respecting the volunteers.
Why respect someone who does this for a fictitious score? This is about science, doing it for anything else is purely idiotic.

I have also noticed this tendency. With the time passing the volunteers are taken for granted, not or very little communicated with and their clock cycles are more and more wasted. (Ahem python applications...). The spirit of the pioneers is fading.

Well, in face of this we can still crunch less or not at all.

Does anyone know for sure what is going to happen to the Separation work units that are left to do, along with the ones in Validation Pending? I personally would like to run what I have left, and get credit for the ones I and everyone else has in Validation Pending. Kinda a way of saying “Thank You for helping with this project”.

it was clearly stated that no more separation is required so i STRONGLY advise against spending compute time on not started units and to terminate those still running as well as those not yet started

The same. They serve no purpose and will probably not even be validated. You can crunch something else.

One of my machines is for me, it does Boinc aswell whenever I'm not playing games. It's on 24/7 anyway for the security cameras.

The other seven I built for Boinc only and sit in the garage. Grabbing second hand and free parts and assembling computers is fun, and of course does a lot of science. They also heat the place, too much usually.

Ah so You say "Grabbing second hand and free parts and assembling computers is fun, and of course does a lot of science. " see here is the distinction - science not chasing the score this is fine even if it's a dedicated machine.
But building machines just for "Must have X SCORE!!!" - that is just not what BOINC is about at all
frankly - i'd crunch even if there was NO SCORE since it's for science

Agreed. I do watch the scores. I do like beating other people, but only because I know I'm doing a lot of science. I use the scores for many things - noticing I'm not doing the tasks properly, seeing not many people are running a small project and deciding to help them out, etc.

The problem is you are you are other people are them, when you create a system of 'credit for doing the work' you inherently credit a system where people will compete to be the best and that means going for the largest number of credits they can get. IMHO the best thing to do is ignore them and let them be them and the rest of us be the rest of us.

The other problem you have is the projects themselves feeding into the greater credit per tasks idea so this project pays more credits than that project for the use of your cpu's or gpu's. This mean that project a gets more crunchers than project b because project a gives more credits for doing the Science. And before you go there NO i am ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY 100% AGAINST the 'credit new' system of normalizing credits across the projects. Let the people decide is my feeling and if project a wants to attract more people by giving out more credits good for them, project b can raise their own credits if it's a problem. Competition is not a bad thing when it comes for yours or my resources as you and I each have different ideas of what's important in the World as far as Boinc Projects go.

I've heard it called "credit skew" because apparently it doesn't work.

I fail to see the point in adding up credit across projects. When I feel like being competitive I pick 1 project and try to climb the stats there. Adding them up across projects would be like me saying I'm better than you because I've felled 500 trees and you've only built 47 houses. Not comparable.

Mikey, why do you have the Pillsbury doughboy as an avatar, and what is the "poke me and die" reference?

I think they had that at the end of the first ghost busters film as the `End Game boss` destroyer of all things ,

Ah, this: https://youtu.be/JENAGlu0SxQ

It says 2016 but it looks like a game from 2 decades ago on one of those little Sega Game Gears. I prefer games with decent graphics like this https://youtu.be/B-NCMazO-8M

Actually it does work but we would get ALOT fewer credits for each task at most projects which is why the nickname

That was the premise of 'credit new' same formula for getting credits at every project, actually it's built into the Server side of Boinc so the Admins at each project have to go in and change it, in several places, so we get the credits the project want's us to get. A few projects still use it as it is though.
