Hello everyone, We are preparing to migrate MilkyWay@home to a new server on 1 November 2023 at 2 pm UTC. This new server has better hardware (specifically more memory), which we expect will improve the performance of the website and the rate at which you can get new workunits. We are forced to perform this migration at a fast pace due to RPI requiring that we update the server OS to ensure proper security. We expect that this migration will take one day to complete. If it looks like the downtime will be longer than that, we will update you on our Facebook page. It is possible that the server might experience some unexpected behavior after this migration, but I will be closely monitoring the situation to resolve any issues as they may come up. In particular, I will be watching the message boards closely, and I will make a thread for people to report issues with the new server. That being said, there were some issues with getting BOINC to recognize the binary up on the new server, so we had to increment the binary version from 1.82 to 1.83. I am not sure what this means for workunits that are awaiting validation after the switch, but I will do what I can to make sure everyone gets as much credit as possible for their work. Unfortunately, it is plausible that you may lose some credit due to the migration, which we apologize for. I apologize for the short notice and thank you in advance for your patience as I try and make this switch as smooth as possible. Thank you, Kevin |

Hello everyone, Thank you for the heads up!! I hope everything goes smoothly with no unexpected glitches!! One thing you might try is running a task on your hardware using ver 1.82 and then run it again using ver 1.83 and see if the unit validates, if not you will have to do some juggling to ensure that the existing 1.82 tasks only get validated by other 1.82 tasks and not a ver 1.83 task. assuming it validates using both versions on your hardware then hopefully it will do the same on our hardware. |

Thanks for the notice, I only found it just now, that probably explains why mine wasn't doing anything the last day it was running but Zero processing happening, Had me thinking my computer had a problem So glad to find out it's just a switchover thing. Looking forward to faster processing because this computer has a lot power never being used, it's on 24/7 |

I had just found the update notice, typed a reply then opened up the BONIC app and it was already running again, processing faster too from what I could see, now I'm happy again. Good job guys. |

Sounds like a good time to dump all those old zombie tasks from 2021 etc that wander around hopelessly in the database , Now then , must put a bit of oil in my `killall` command :-) |

Great job guys!.:D If you're updating to Windows 11 it's snazzy it's everything Windows 10 needed. Just beware i don't know how many versions there will be of Windows 11 but it sounds like we're getting a new version every year, they've just rolled out 23H2 which is now the third version, unlike other windows they only had two. I don't know if they're going to stop at the 5th version though but it's different to other Windows needing more versions. Next year will be 24H2. Pause updates from the end of August until March because it's going to have compatibility issues and Septembers and Octobers updates are FOR the next version, so technically from September we're on the next version already because they start changing the programming, compatibility, and putting in new features for the next version. Let it install the security patches once it unpauses but pause it again right after so it doesn't install any updates if you ever need to restart or shut down. Now Microsoft have all their own drivers too but it takes everyone a few months to update especially graphics drivers. If you are updating the server OS to Windows 11 then it'll probably miraculously install everything fine lmao, but on an already running Windows 11 it won't until drivers are compatible and major bugs are fixed. They put through bug fixes and a couple features through the security updates so by the time you finally update to the next version in March you won't have any issues, but create restore points anyway just incase. Again if Windows 11 is what you're updating to. |

Yes Win11 is much better than Win10 but just so you know Win11 does do some 'urgent' updates that under Win10 were classified as 'normal', so you might want to be aware of them too and no you can't just not do them unlesss you have the Pro version or are willing to go thru the Management Console or what we used to call Services. |

Never had issues with those windows 11 updates apart from when they've moving onto the next version, mainly they do emergency updates for emergency security updates or bug fixes but for the rest of the 5 months of the year it's smooth sailing for all the updates because by March they're pretty much finished. |

I got the same Failed message when I tried to readd using the link provided. I also tried https://... with the same error (http redirects to https so this is probably trivial). |

How do we add the project back in? I seem to be getting an error message that says try again later |

The website has php errors, maybe due to the change of URL? Typical error: Deprecated: Creation of dynamic property BoincUser::$id is deprecated in /home/boinc/boinc/milkyway/html/user/top_users.php on line 95 This is probably preventing the add process so we will have to wait until the php is updated. Just my guess. |

I don't know if this detail will help, but I had no problem re-adding the project on my PC's running Windows. However, I received the same "Please try again later" message as some others when attempting to re-add the project on my PC's running Linux. |

However, I received the same "Please try again later" message as some others when attempting to re-add the project on my PC's running Linux. My linux machines are all not letting me add it back after deleting the original connection. I have tried with http and https with the address given in the message. Earlier I could not log into my account online (error was, no email matching mine), that is working again and I can log in online to the website. |

Stat's do not appear to have been exported after the migration. Can someone take a peak at the script for credit stat's ? Thanks Bill F |

For those who are having trouble connecting to the project, updating BOINC seemed to fix the issue. Let me know if this is still an issue in the "Thread to report issues after server migration" in Number Crunching |

I'm using a special built BOINC (v7.19), so I can't update it. Is this going to be fixed? |
