Since 1/28/2024 I keep getting the above message and "Scheduler request to url failed: Couldn't resolve host name". My average work units keep falling. I used to get that at alot of projects but if I kept trying it would finally say 'ah I know who you are' and let things happen. What do you mean by your 'average workunits keep failing'? Are they going as 'inconclusive', are they going as 'invalid' or what? |

@djs, check the file C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml in a text editor: – First, search for the first occurrence of the string milkyway . – Then, search for a line, or lines, starting with <scheduler_url> . If there is only a single <scheduler_url> line with the contents <scheduler_url>https://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_cgi/cgi</scheduler_url> present in the MilkyWay@Home project block, then at least your client_state.xml is alright. But if you find a second scheduler_url line, for example <scheduler_url>url</scheduler_url> right beneath or above the previously mentioned correct line, then this other malformed line should be removed. To remove such a superfluous and malformed line, follow these steps: – Close the editor with which you loaded the C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml file. – Shut down BOINC. – Open C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml again in a text editor. – Find and remove the bogus line. Save the file. Close the editor. – Start BOINC again and check that it started correctly. – Open C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml once more and check if the bogus line is really no longer there. Note, C:\ProgramData\BOINC\client_state.xml should normally never be altered by the user. The file is read by BOINC once at startup, and subsequently overwritten at many occasions by BOINC during its operation. BOINC expects that no other program is altering this file concurrently. About the problem of superfluous and wrong <scheduler_url> lines in client_state.xml: A while ago, there was a small mistake in MilkyWay@Home's HTML code at the master URL which brough these false lines into clients which were attached at that time. The HTML code has been fixed a while ago, so this doesn't happen any more. But perhaps your host picked this up during the period when this bug was there. xii5ku, Thank you. I made the change and the error messages have gone away. I saw the previous thread but did not understand what they were talking about. Use to know some programming back in the 80's but have worked as a hardware tech since then. thanks, djs |
