Read the project news guys, no wonder why we get no new work, some guys out there they return invalid or bad results and Travis i believe need some time to find the solution.

Milkyway news from 11 December 2008 : ---- > http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/all_news.php#99

It's come to my attention (looking at the results that are coming in), that a few of our users are using applications that are incorrect. ......
The searches we're running right now are highly sensitive to bad results, so this is pretty important. Either way I'm watching the users that are giving back bad results, and when our validator gets updated in the next couple days these bad results will not be awarded any credit. I'm hoping this isn't malicious action on the part of these users, and rather just a failure to double check their compiled apps.

Hmmm...

That would be a good reason as well! ;-)

I saw the post Travis made about it here in NC yesterday, but he didn't mention anything about stopping work generation at that time.

Right -- I saw that as well -- it might be the cause/effect -- but there was no comment about suspending new work generation -- might be the case though. I suppose it would be nice to get some confirmation of this -- we're in supposition mode at the moment. Glad I have multiple projects on all players.

As BarryAZ says - no announcement on new work generation.

It may be the intention that not generating new work allows the work in progress to be completed. That way all these returned results will queue with the work waiting on the assimilator, but go no further.

This way Travis can look for problem WU return results, as per his announcement here.

Subject to Travis's findings on the numbers of bad WU results returned, and then taking some action relating to preventing acceptance of these bad results. Then I would then surmise he will start splitting new work and we are then all back to crunching.

Does this fall in with what is happening, or do others know something else or speculate for another reason?

If my speculation is correct, then it will take a few hours yet to clear the work in progress as there is 8K WUs to clear.

FYI, I stopped Milky app after to know this issue, but it was futile becouse all my machines were without work since last night. I don't think that outage is due to a few wu's with errors wich were validated. We're now searching the bug and trying to fix it.

Best regards.
Logan.

Well, considering we just had a major ice storm in the northeast, you might want to cut them some slack.

Good grief! I'm not being critical here, just a simple statement of current facts. Did you see me whining about losing RAC or any such? I'm just running other projects. I would rather run MW, and I'm almost out of WUs, that's all.

That's the first thing I did, and it didn't say anything about not making WUs available in the meanwhile.

Many projects run have more than one user run the same WU, and won't give them credit unless the results agree within a certain margin of error.

Just recovered from a 4 hour power outtage. Lost all that time crunching. What a shame.

I don't think that happens much (if at all). I think what is done is that the WU gets sent out again and the participant from the original run whose results match the new run gets her/his credit.

What's far more common with this kind of system is one of the participants doesn't get the WU done in time, and it gets sent to someone else. The other participant has credit pending until someone gets it done on time, and right. People with faster CPUs frequently have quite a bank of pending credit.
