That top picture looks like it was meant to break at some point. Two pieces of wood that isn't a complete section is not going to last. Too bad they can't make something that'll last. Definitely wonky... Definitely. :-( |

Unusual, Futons are usually made fairly strong. Could the break not be re-inforced with a couple of flat plates either side, say 3"x1" and screwed in? |

I think a few bolts (with washers) would hold much better than screws. I can think of a few different ways to fix it. But then I do tend to fix things myself. No, I'm rather overwieght for a woman, due to my limited mobility and the futon was only meant as an occasional bed, guest bed, sofa bed. HOwever, I've used it for years. The inner frame has snapped. The one side does look like its meant to snap that way (zig-zag, for some reason)but the other is too extensive a split in inner frame wood. I went to Ikea today; what a rip-off for what seems to be trash beds... I was really suprised. This woman did my head in and got stroppy when I insisted I really could do with a 'metal' framed bed, and what 'difference did I assume a metal set of bars under a matress might do that slats wouldn't?'I left her to her judgemental bossiness and spent almost four hours in the whole shop mooching. Had some famous Ikea meatballs too... mmm. I'm going to do as Phil has suggested, put post on gumtree and still consider Argos, as they do have one but its just very plain. I had fun tonight putting together a 6-feet tall pine and material wardrobe, which almost killed me from my wheelchair, but I love doing these things. Ever seen a wardrobe mangled round a person in a wheelchair? :P Lisa |

Even metal frams could be made poorly. Somebody should have a good frame though. You could have a few more wood slats added to your new frame which would support the other slats. I added a couple 1x3's when I got a new mattress and box spring for the added support. It seems anymore that what one wants can't be found in the quality that is expected.
