One of our users sent me:

please note that Norton Internet Security detects as a HIGH RISK: milkyway_0.10_windows_intelx86.exe,,File Based,Fully removed

I'm wondering what on earth would be causing this issue? (Other than it's Norton software... but I don't want to go into that :P )

Probably a false positive. You can upload and scan files here:

Me too. In fact if I ever had any it was when I first installed Boinc years ago. But never with MW.

If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Biggest problem I found with Norton Internet Security is that it states that it doesn't work for XP64. I'm not going to try it, as when I ran it on XP32, it kept causing system crashes and other problems (which prompted me to install XP64 and move away from 32-bit on my 64-bit systems).

I use Norton (and other virus apps) on many of my hosts and have seen no issues with norton other than it is a resource hog

I never liked Norton allthough I know how to run it.
I always thought that Norton was never user friendly especially if one is not "savvy".
So many time I had to fix computers that had Norton on them and find that it always locks all kind of files on the computer whether it be a roor dir. or not.

I always used kaspersky myself and never had a problem.

Norton can really clogged the system if you don't really know what your doing allthough it claim to be very user friendly but some of its interface is too much for one that is not "savvy"

My opinion.

Besides which, it's also one of the most invasive virus scanners. Remember when they demanded Microsoft make an API for kernel access in Vista because they said they needed it for their software? (then Kaspersky I believe demonstrated that they could get around just fine without kernel access, but I think they got their API anyway, thus allowing another way in for Viruses as well)
