Don't complain very often about much. You can color me happy with the project here as well. Couple of minor disagreements on credits, but that's small in comparison to the troubles Dave and Travis have been haivng lately.

A new user so not familiar with credit amounts. I have noticed that the wus I have , are due a few days after I get them, so run at high priority. What we called in sports a ball hog. Though all is running fine.

It has to do with the way the science works here at MW.

Each iteration of the search depends on the outcome of the last, so it is essential that the tasks are returned in a timely fashion so the search doesn't wander off in erroneous directions.

Therefore, by necessity MW is a tight deadline project.

In any event, if you leave BOINC alone it will follow the Resource Shares you set. However, it will jump around in what and how much work it will pick from your projects to accommodate that, depending on what you have for your CI/CO.

Of course with the backend not being in the healthiest of states right at the moment, things will appear somewhat more screwy than you would normally see. ;-)

Ha ha ha. Our overnight temp tonight is forecast at 21C (70F)! A high of 28C (82F) for tomorrow. (that's in Cape Town, most of the rest of South Africa is rainy. Wish we could send the rain to Australia.

I'll swap weather with all of you guys. We just had some supercells run through the area followed by a squall line this evening. A city north of here got blasted by a pretty decent-sized tornado and there has been hail all over the place. I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't be having tornadoes in February, especially since we just had an ice storm a couple of weeks ago. I'm just now starting my computers back up after a series of brown outs caused by all of this mess. :(

Mary, your quote had me interested so I did some calculations to see how much force would be necessary to stop a bottle cap (1 ounce) traveling at 23,000 mph in about 1 sec (when it hit earth). Turns out its about 291 newtons. Now a person on earth who weighs 150 pounds exerts about 650 newtons on the earth. But since the area of the bottlecap is so small it would do significant damage similar to a 75 pound weight on top of a needle.

Since when did a bottle cap weigh an ounce? ;^) Good grief, do they make bottle caps out of lead where you live? ;^)

Seriously - I feel like I can trust Travis to be fair, if a bit frazzled sometimes by trying to meet various competing demands and pressures. My farm is a mix of AMD and Intel boxes with a mix of linux and Windows OS. I feel like I'm getting a fair shake, credit-wise.

In fact, on the box I'm writing this on (Opty 170 with Windows), I noticed that RAC had dropped dramatically recently. As it turns out, it was a matter of not having worked all the way through the incredible number of WU's SETI threw at me when I grabbed some when this project wasn't sending any out a while back. This, despite the resource share being something like 80 times higher for this project. Suffice to say I got that straightened out.

In short, SETI grants fairly pathetic credit/hour compared to many projects, including this one, which is why I usually don't devote many CPU cycles to SETI any more.

As an aside, they do have a CUDA app, though. As much as I want to help out here; I just don't see myself getting an ATI card. I've been an nVidia guy for way too long to change now.

Anyway, the way I've been treated here is in STARK contrast to another project that has been mentioned on these boards (but shall remain nameless), that lost WU's that took approximately a WEEK to process (on a reasonably powerful processor), but errored out right at the end (with NO credit). This was a known problem with AMD processors and their app, and their attitude was basically "s***s to be you, and why are you running AMD, anyway"? And this was/is supposed to be a PRODUCTION project!

Huh - our HIGH temps have been in the 20s (C) lately, which is actually quite warm for February in Denver, Colorado USA

The thing is, that was enough to make the room that has my farm in it right now something like 32C, which was making my Opty box shut down due to heat overload (75C CPU). I've taken to pulling some late night/early morning air in the window with a fan to get the temp back in the 20s (C) inside this room. I have to be careful not to do too much, though, or I'll have the furnace kicking in.
