How on earth are you getting the work to sustain that RAC?

Have you seen Campaign's RAC? 1.4 mil.

I've had 23 wu's in the last 24 hours, the most I have tried for and gotten in a couple weeks. I've been happy crunching for rosetta while waiting on MW to pop up on its own.

To answer your question, a script that requests very often and a bit of luck. (and possibly a bribe or two ;p)
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

I'm a postgrad, and in my lab, the work goes:

Professor/Boss: Can fire you. Do not anger. Potentially has mental deficiency. Use beer to placate, or show results before 9am or at the weekend. Make sure you're in the lab when he's coming for you.

Post-Doc: Can do any project, sometimes has teaching duties. Often has a main project and 3-4 smaller ones with Post-Grads.

Post-Grad: For all intents and purposes, lackeys. Purchased to churn out paper after paper, or do that random experiment the Professor (or the boss as I call him) has an idea for.

Under-Grad: Doing a final year project, and about this time of year are finished and writing it up. Work gets shifted onto a Post-Grad, who has to filter through the unique practises of the undergrad.

Summer-Student: Usually an undergrad paid for 8-10 weeks in the summer. Also an outlet for the Professor's mad ideas, or will get shifted onto a Post-Grad to do their monkey work.

Depending on the size of the lab, or the amount of monkeys, work gets done. I'm in a group of 20+ (1 Prof, 3 PD, 13 PG, 4 UG, 3 SS) and we churn out papers til the fingers go blue - usually 2 to 6 per year per person.

That makes depressing reading. I was planning on doing a postgrad course next year...but maybe I should forget it!

I'm doing less work in postgrad than undergrad. And getting paid for it (UK EPSRC).
