Estimated time.. crunch it, let us know if it really took that long.

I have checked a few of my hosts, and have seen several WU's with long estimated time.. but they seem to crunch in about the same time as the others. give or take 15-20% longer

Actually, I am seeing the opposite. Tiny estimated times (14 seconds) that take the normal 20-25 minutes.

I read the thread and saw it on the main website. That would be one heck of an adjustment. No worries, it finished on time

Our numbers were really off. When we first updated the fpops calculation, WUs were reporting 400 hours to completion, lol.

I have 20 wu's with time to complete 0:44 to 1:01. My actual time to complete is 1:00:00 to 1:25:00. All of them are due 02/06. Also I have 6 other WU's finishing in the same time frame. Whats going on here? Looks like some wu may not get finished!

Travis, you have given us a challenge. This is a good thing tho. Changing the Fpops has made my vegetables (it's a garden and I'm a Wabbit!) really go bonkers, but this will really help in the long run.

My 1.3 GHz Linux Celerons (Cabbage and Lettuce) suddenly went from 1:37 to 0:04 or so for the estimated time and downloaded a bunch (more than they can comfortably eat). Cabbage decided 2:35 was the answer for a couple of s21 tasks (not crunched yet) tho...sigh. My bigger iron went to 0:04 and downloaded the limit too (but a bunch more)...sigh again. Thank you for the limit! Potato and Onion complained, but I told them to chill. This too shall pass. My vegetables agree that we can work it out and in the end everything will be better once BOINC figures out what's going on and the transient times settle out.

I've had a chat with all the vegetables (8 of them: 4 Linux (optimized), 4 Windows (stock)) and we all agree that we can handle this. It's a one time thing that helps the project. All of us are vigilant about task waste, and we apologize for the abandoned tasks.

It's a PITA, but we can handle it :)

Just an incorrect estimation of the number of operations required to complete the wu. As soon as it starts crunching the estimated time to completion will drop like a stone. It does stuff up work cached though...

Well, I just noticed that both my systems have been clogged up with MWs since early yesterday, most running in earliest deadline first mode. The Intel (P4 3.0 HT) was choked on 24 of them, still got 10 left that should be finished in time. It's taking about 1.5 to 2 hours on each task.

The AMD (XP 2200+) got the full 12 of them and has 5 left, those should be finished in time as well. It is taking about 1 hour 20 minutes on them.

I can even continue to play Oblivion on the Intel, what with my preferences to suspend BOINC when the exclusive app starts up. ;-)

Jord,

You should install the optimised app. Wu's on my P4 3.0 HT are completing in around 18 minutes for the shorties and 25 minutes for the longies.

I haven't looked in these forums for a long time, so I didn't know there was a new optimized app. Thanks for the tip, Paul. I will check it out.

What CPU, and which version of the opt app are you using? Are you using the correct opt app?
