Man, I dono why people decide to flame our forums while we're trying to get the server working again :P Talk about bad timing, lol. BOINC is like a university. The projects are fraternities. They all reside on Fraternity Row. It's easy to walk out of one frat and into another carrying lots of baggage. Sometimes it's rough on the pledges. :) Say, I got post 9999 and you got post 10001. We both missed the magic number by 1. What a coincidence mysterious milky way kid. me@rescam.org |

What else could go wrong? How about this for the next version of MW? http://www.flickr.com/photos/mickey_i/527141283/ Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

What else could go wrong? Oh man... that's exactly what I was putting together (except mine used glass). I should have patented it before you posted that pic. me@rescam.org |

Say, I got post 9999 and you got post 10001. We both missed the magic number by 1. What a coincidence mysterious milky way kid. The 2 or 3 topics got deleted, so the post doesn't exists now. Just hit search at the top, scroll down, no 10000. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

What else could go wrong? Cant do floating-point arithmetic with glass beads, they always sink down the rods. I tried already. |

What else could go wrong? Mine are hollow beads filled with hydrogen. No smoking allowed. Not recommended for overclocked systems. me@rescam.org |

What else could go wrong? BOINC must first be put in snooze mode. Do not leave tasks in memory. me@rescam.org |

Wow! What a saga! A good imagination gives great insights on Travis and Dave working behind the server scenes with several 20 lb lump hammers. It looks like they are slowly beating the servers in to shape, and they are moving on to the delicate stuff for the 3 lb hammers. Best of luck with the final straight(s) for both of you. Looks like Travis and Dave are back under the bonnet (hood) as these servers are not running - data-driven web pages milkyway....Running upload/download server milkyway...Running scheduler milkyway..................Running feeder milkyway.............Not Running transitioner milkyway.......Not Running db_purge milkyway...........Not Running milkyway_av milkyway........Not Running This is the next stage using the delicate touch! Many thanks for the sheer intensity of your problem addressing to both of you - Travis and Dave. |

omfg. the computer gods hate us :( yeah. more to come tomorrow when we figure more stuff out. Things sound worse than upgrading from XP to Vista. Keep the freshmen outta the computer lab and good luck tomorrow. Don't forget about food & sleep. me@rescam.org |

omfg. the computer gods hate us :( yeah. more to come tomorrow when we figure more stuff out. I tried it the other way, trying to dual boot XP on Vista - it kept blue screening. Hope the MW servers ain't blue screening...

OK -- this is getting rather tedious. I think I will for now approach the problem from the client side by suspending Milkyway processing, and setting it up for 'no new work'. Assuming we don't encounter a third run of completed workunit kill off, I'll then 'unsuspend' the project to let existing work process and clean the queues. Then, after a couple of days of normal operations, I'll let new work flow into the workstations for processing. |
