That's what happened to me last week. BOINC showed SSE2 for my PC and CPU-Z showed SSE3. I tried the SSE3 optimised app and it works very well indeed. |

Hi Guys, was reading the posts with intrest and decided to try the SSSE3 app and bugga me the thing flies....Gone from 95min turn around to not much more than 15min 20 at the most. Just copied the files to each of the \Bionc\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway\slots\0\1 with the exception of the Bionic dir where i only coppied the app_info file fired up the client and away it went first time with valid results :) |

Just copied the files to each of the \Bionc\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway\slots\0\1 with the exception of the Bionic dir where i only coppied the app_info file Hum, the place to be is the ...\BOINC\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway\ directory. Not in the BOINC\slots directory, as these ones get reset after each task. Not in the BOINC directory. Jord. The BOINC FAQ Service. |

Thought id cover all the bases!!! Worked fine though.. Oopps!!! my mistake. should have been-- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\BOINC\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\slots\0\1 very sorry for the mistake.. Glenn.. |

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\slots\0\1 This one isn't necessary. BOINC will copy the files from the Milkyway directory to the slot directory, before it starts working on the task. When the task is done, uploaded and all, the contents of the slot are deleted and data is copied from the Milkyway directory again. Jord. The BOINC FAQ Service. |

Thanks for the tip I realize that now.. Theyre crunching in around 17 min with valid results.. everything looks fine for now... Glenn Still going well knocking them out in just over 17min getting credits no problem. Thank you Ice for hosting the apps, your bloods worth bottleing.. |

I'm currently running Windows 7 beta 64bit, the opp app for x64 is causing computation errors! I'm running nVidia graphics does that make a difference? |

I'm currently running Windows 7 beta 64bit, the opp app for x64 is causing computation errors! To cite the zslip.com site: Milkyway_0.17_ATI_SSE3_x64.zip Win64 GPU app It uses the graphics card for the computations and is simply not running on nvidia GPUs. |

I'm currently running Windows 7 beta 64bit, the opp app for x64 is causing computation errors! That's right, and the other four 64bit opp apps are for Linux, not Windows. I hope this is made clear enough in www.zslip.com Please let me know (as author of zslip) if I need to make it clearer. (email: zslip dot com at gmail dot com) |

Okay, I've downloaded the optimized files (I have worked with them in the past, under a different version of BOINC Manager) Now, I am using BOINC version 6.4.5 and the familiar (Projects) file is not there. Where do we place the optimized files? |

Where do we place the optimized files? Try this, (found in zslip); how to use CPU-Z and the optimized apps (Copy the appropriate app_info.xml and astronomy....exe app file as appropriate to your 'projects' file milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway.) |

Now, I am using BOINC version 6.4.5 and the familiar (Projects) file is not there. Where do we place the optimized files? BOINC 6 splits the directories, so that the BOINC executables are in the Program Files\BOINC directory and the files that are written to a lot are in the separate data directory. By default this data directory can be found at: Win2k/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ Vista: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ These directories may be hidden, so make sure to use Show hidden files and folders. I must have gotten a bit behind here. Last I heard there weren't any approved opti clients for windows. Has this changed in the last week or so? I looked at zlist and got the ones for SSE3 <--- supposedly what my CPU will handle by CPUID, but last time I tried this I had errors out the ying yang. Running Vista 32 bit AMD 64 x2 6000+ ATI HD 3870 <--- no plans to run the graphics app. |

Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

In fact, we just got a new student working with us, which her job being getting some GPU versions of milkyway@home available for you guys who really want to crunch some serious workunits :P Cluster Physik also has a GPU version running (which is... REALLY fast). There's more about that in the code discussion forum. |
