Did you unzip the files? Yes I did. I unzipped them before I moved them into that file. |

Did you unzip the files? If you do not see the annon message you did not copy the files into the right location or you did not properly shutdown BOINC. Many versions of BOINC do not shut down the "client" when you exit the manager even when the manager says it shut down the client. YOu have to use the advanced menu and shut down the connected client (check with task manager to be sure there is no 100% CPU use) then close the manager. Copy the files and then restart the manager which will start up the client. Or just copy the files into the location and reboot sometimes works ... |

Great. Now I cant reconnect because I dont know my Host Name or Password. There is a password recovery for your MW account ... use the link to get it reset/resent ... If it is for the main windows account the alternative I know of is to reinstall the OS ... though I am sure if you google it there may be a less drastic way to get it back or reset... |

Host name should be 'localhost' and the password will be located in gui_rpc_auth.cfg which is in the BOINC data folder. ![]() |

The reporting of CPU capabilities is about the same between Windows and Linux. I think any Bill Gates conspiracies can be ruled out. Huh?! Not even close. My Ubuntu Linux 64b reports on a Q6600: Sat 10 Oct 2009 08:06:05 AM CDT Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl pni monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr lahf_lm vs WinXP Pro 64 on a Q6600 both in Gigabyte G31 chipset mobos: Sat 10 Oct 2009 06:56:20 PM CDT Processor features: fpu tsc pae nx sse sse2 Conspiracy theory back in. ;-) |

Hello. Can anyone point me to an app_info.xml that is 6.10.x ready for CPU and GPU opti. apps, like there is one for seti (by the Lunatics crew), or should I try to make my own? (I'd consider existence of such .xml a great help for us using opti apps) BR, ![]() |

Hello. All opti apps have a app_info file with them that is needed to run the opti apps. Apps -> http://www.brilliantsite.com Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

Version 0.20b for ATI optimized apps is now on brilliantsite.com All zip files in the downloads begin with ati_ to denote they are for ati GPU processing (not CPU). Some of the file names end with _amd.zip which denote that amdcal* drivers are required. See the readme.txt in each download. [edit] ooops, sorry, wrong thread... |

Hello. Hey banditwolf. Thanks for your answer, which is correct for my question asked. So I'll refine my question: Lunatics crew have provided an app_info.xml, that allows one to crunch CPU (multibeam and astropulse) and GPU (multibeam) WUs on same computer. I was wondering if anyone did it for milkyway? OTOH this would be just a step toward the complicated resource usage policy I'd like to achieve. (on a Q9450 with ATI R4870 I'd like to run on CPU: MW cpu (25%), SETI cpu (25%), primegrid cpu (25%), other backup projects and cpu part of gpu apps (25%), on GPU: MW (99%), collaz - as backup (1%)). So far I have been successful in implementing most of it by running 2 BOINC core clients in parallel one for CPU the other for GPU, however it's impossible to have both attached to same project(s), as server scheduler recognizes both as the same computer and then it assigns new CCPID, WUs and in fact whole hell breaks loose. I went so far as to try changing hostnames (<domain> tag) in client_state.xml, but on restart client overwrites my changes. For now, I have run out of ideas what could be tried next, so I eagerly await suggestions. BR, ![]() |

Hello all! Here's my question: since I've installed the right MW optimized app for my PCs, I notice the same amount of credits granted for ALL the completed wus, even if with different run time and claimed credits. That number is 53.45. Why? Is that normal? Thanks for your attention... The Dreamer ![]() |

That number is 53.45. Why? Is that normal? Yes it is supposed to be. The same work is getting done faster with the opti app, the stock app doesn't have as much alterations in it, especially on the faster processors. It was ~75 credits untill the credits were wacked again. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

@Vid, You can not run both MW GPU & MW CPU on the same machine at the same time. If you notice at SETI, they have different version numbers for each of their optimized apps, while MW only has one version number in total. With just one version number there is no way to make the app_info distinguish betwen CPU & GPU. ![]() Calm Chaos Forum...Join Calm Chaos Now |

You can not run both MW GPU & MW CPU on the same machine at the same time. That's very true, although you can run VM (virtual machines) so that you are running MW GPU on the host and MW CPU in the VM. Still, it's running on two different machines but on the same physical machine. I've tried it myself, but it didn't seem too efficient and the response on the VM was very poor. |

Yes it possible to run on (V)itual (M)achines but as allways the VM's needs a monster a machine to get medium performance I have run VM's on blade servers which had 64 cpu's on board and still you see the loss in performance. Whatever they tell you does not matter its still a long way from the VM to the actual machine and that shows when performance is needed. Now don't get me wrong i like VM but only where it is usefull like running 200 web servers on it with ease, but thats entire other matter. Ofcourse many think VM is a solution for everything but we will see what happens when things go horrible wrong as i experienced myself, and then good old ms is not at home and blames everybody else :D Its new, its relative fast... my new bicycle |

VM is out of the question. Been there done that. So far VMs are good only for easy tasks != crunching. Instead I will expand my one BOINC CC for each resource idea a bit further. At this point I won't promise when, as what I have in mind requires some BOINC CC code tweaking, with which I'm unfortunately insufficiently familiar. But in time, I'll show you, it can be done and it will work. BR, ![]() |

VM is out of the question. Been there done that. So far VMs are good only for easy tasks != crunching. Well, yesterday I did it! With both --allow_multiple_clients command line parameter and <suppress_net_info> tag in cc_config.xml, I was able to run MW on CPU and GPU concurrently on one computer AND with different resource shares for each resource WITHOUT the use of VM. However, my triumph was a short one. After second restart of GPU designated CC, it refused to start saying that another BOINC instance is running. Well it was running, that's why I supply --allow_multiple_clients parameter. After that, I tried almost all versions from 5.10.45 up. No go. Another bug, I guess it must be caused by something stored in one of the configuration files (anyone cares to compile a current CC with another-instance-running check commented out? It would make my day!). Anyways, after being successful with this experiment (the concept at least, as the software is obviously broken somewhere), I decided to try out my new HD5870 again (that is on Win XP 64bit). This time, I put it beside the 4870. Drivers installed ok., both cards are running. MW fails to run (locks up graphics) on either card, while Collatz runs fine. This leads me to think it's a driver thing and I hope/wish/eagerly await, that it will be fixed here soon, as it's just Collatz for my ATIs now. BR, ![]() |

Okay I'm stumped. I have one machine with 2x 4850x2 in it and I can get only 1 or at most 2 units running on the optimized app at a time. And both run on Device 0. I have checked the app_info and there is nothing weird in it. I have copied an app info over from another machine running 8 at a time (0.5 on the count x 4 GPU) I have created a cc_config.xml and set the use all coproc flag. I have gone from 6.10.18 to 6.10.19 in case it was an issue... I have reset the project. I have detached and re-attached the project. I am now looking for a goat to sacrifice and a calender to show the correct phase of the moon to do it on. |
