Seems he gets max amount everyday the same as with his 280 GTX cards No increase in points a day thats what he told me not sure if he runs ps3grid. He told me there is a limit on points on the projects or with boinc. I cant confirm any of it since i dont have such materials i am just a poor boy running boinc for fun :) ps cant ask him yet he is on holiday not returned yet |

Seems he gets max amount everyday the same as with his 280 GTX cards I'm running PS3GRID, or GPUGRID as it's now known, and have one big complaint about limits. I'm limited to just one on-board GPU that can run it, and it should be twice as fast ;) |

I guess I should not complain about only being able to do about 15 GPU Grid tasks a day on one of my systems ... :) As to the credit caps, Milky Way is one of the only projects that I can think of that has ever had a credit cap ... SaH had one once if I recall correctly ... generally though they are set so high that only a few people run into those caps ... and if they run more than one project that is even very unlikely ... Heck, I am having a hard time keeping my one ATI card supplied and running 24/7 ... though that is more likely the fault of the BOINC Manager than anything else ... |

OK, Misfit then :P I've heard a rumour about a version of BOINC that is optimum for GPU. I've been moving away from 5.10.45 since I got into GPU and it's been quite fun to experiment with different versions and drivers, and to watch as the optimizing/GPU development has been going on. |

I've downloaded the SSE2 app for elderly P4s and I can't see to find where to put it. Any help please? |

C:\...\Boinc\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway If you know where Boinc is installed, if not do a search for the folder. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

C:\...\Boinc\projects\milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway I think my version of Boinc is different. I have version 6.6.20 and the folder you speak of does not contain the same files! |

*add* copied from here: BOINC 6 splits the directories, so that the BOINC executables are in the Program Files\BOINC directory and the files that are written to a lot are in the separate data directory. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

I have 5.10.45 & XP, so I can't always be precise. Have you found the Boinc folder? There should be a milkyway subfolder in that. (If you can't see one, try to show hidden folders, should be under Tools/Folder Options/view) *edit* If not do a search for Boinc or milkyway. That should find it. Yes, found the folder..but I'm not sure which download file goes where as they don't match up at all to what is already there. |

Yes, found the folder..but I'm not sure which download file goes where as they don't match up at all to what is already there. The postition of the folders depends which version of BOINC you initially installed and if you ever told it to run as a service. The milkyway folder is called milkyway.cs.rpi.edu_milkyway and contains a whole slew of text files with names like stars...txt and parameters...txt Both files go into there. Shut down BOINC, start it up and view the Messages tab, a few lines from the top you should see: Milkyway@home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform |

Yes, found the folder..but I'm not sure which download file goes where as they don't match up at all to what is already there. They will not match any stock file. The stock file is something like milkyway_0.17 or so. It should be the only non-text file. The two app_info.xml and astronomy_0.19_SSE2.exe both should go into the milkyway folder. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

okay. I shall put it there, and if it goes horribly wrong I'm holding you both responsible! |

okay. I shall put it there, and if it goes horribly wrong I'm holding you both responsible! It only goes horribly wrong if you use Linux and then its 'cos you forgot to set the permissions on the files! Ah it goes horribly wrong if you try to make your OWN app_info file, and get the syntax wrong, when you sit horrified watching hundreds of workunits get d/loaded and deleted. Anyway, I'll open the window and listen for the bang. |

okay. I shall put it there, and if it goes horribly wrong I'm holding you both responsible! Never underestimate my ability to totally screw up something supposedly straight forward. ..although it seems to be doing what you said it would do, but I have no WUs to test it on. |

okay. I shall put it there, and if it goes horribly wrong I'm holding you both responsible! zzzzztttttttttttttttTTTTTTTTT!!!! There went Milkyway. :p When you start Boinc back up as Phil said you should have a message such as: 4/22/2009 8:11:31 AM|Milkyway@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |
