Nothing new then :/
Only news is the ongoing fight who should get the biggest slice of the pizza. I look like BOINC cut down on the amount Cr's MW can hand out if you look at this graph No comment or news from Travis for the past 10 days A BLAST FROM YOUR PAST |

I know this has nothing to do with Pizza or Vacations & I really hate to mess your guy's Thread up by going off Topic but as anyone got a 4890 to work with the WU's yet, I slipped 1 in to replace a 4870 just to see if it would work but first off it wouldn't even recognize the 8.12 Drivers, said I didn't have any ATI Drivers Installed. So I Installed the Drivers that came with the Diamond 4890 (8.60's I think) but as usual I haven't been able to get any WU's yet ... PS: Looks like I did get some but they wouldn't either run or report correctly apparently ... 4/7/2009 9:14:15 AM|Milkyway@home|Output file ps_s24_15_4834212_1239109925_0_0 for task ps_s24_15_4834212_1239109925_0 absent 4/7/2009 9:14:15 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting ps_s24_15_4834215_1239109925_0 4/7/2009 9:14:15 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting task ps_s24_15_4834215_1239109925_0 using milkyway version 19 4/7/2009 9:14:16 AM|Milkyway@home|Computation for task ps_s24_15_4834215_1239109925_0 finished 4/7/2009 9:14:16 AM|Milkyway@home|Output file ps_s24_15_4834215_1239109925_0_0 for task ps_s24_15_4834215_1239109925_0 absent 4/7/2009 9:14:16 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting ps_s24_15_4834217_1239109925_0 4/7/2009 9:14:16 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting task ps_s24_15_4834217_1239109925_0 using milkyway version 19 4/7/2009 9:14:17 AM|Milkyway@home|Computation for task ps_s24_15_4834217_1239109925_0 finished 4/7/2009 9:14:17 AM|Milkyway@home|Output file ps_s24_15_4834217_1239109925_0_0 for task ps_s24_15_4834217_1239109925_0 absent 4/7/2009 9:14:17 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting ps_s24_15_4834219_1239109925_0 4/7/2009 9:14:17 AM|Milkyway@home|Starting task ps_s24_15_4834219_1239109925_0 using milkyway version 19 4/7/2009 9:14:18 AM|Milkyway@home|Computation for task ps_s24_15_4834219_1239109925_0 finished 4/7/2009 9:14:18 AM|Milkyway@home|Output file ps_s24_15_4834219_1239109925_0_0 for task ps_s24_15_4834219_1239109925_0 absent 4/7/2009 9:15:00 AM|Milkyway@home|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. So far this is all I can get from the 4890 using the 8.60 Drivers which are the only ones I can get to install so far: <core_client_version>6.5.0</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> Incorrect function. I don't have a gpu, but I'll try to give a few suggestions anyway. Is it possible that it isn't being recognized by Boinc or 19.e? Try uninstalling the drivers completely, reboot and reinstall, it might erase any memmory of the old versions. Cluster could tell you if 19.e supports the 4890. (I don't see why it wouldn't) Good time to get a card setup though, not missing much work. ;p Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

I don't have a gpu, but I'll try to give a few suggestions anyway. Yeah that's what I figured too, wasn't getting much work done anyway so I might as well throw 1 of the 4890's I got yesterday and see what was up with it, so far nothing :P I did the complete Uninstall-Reboot & then re-install several times already, the 8.60 driver is the only 1 that will install like I said. It wasn't putting the 3 amd files into the system32 either so I manually put them in but it still wouldn't work. Dead in the Water right now, will have to see what Cluster has to say about it later, Thanks anyway |

I assume your system is recognizing the 4890 and boinc/mw isn't? There are some other drivers listed here if you hadn't checked those out. Possibly it needs Diamonds drivers and not ati's? Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

The System sees the Card or at least it's listed in the Device Manager as a "ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series" type card. The v8.60 Drivers are the Drivers that Diamond shipped on the CD with the Card and the only ones so far that i can get to install. I'm gonna check the Diamond Site out if Possible & see if they have anything else that will work. I have a feeling the Cards were shipped out with Junk Drivers because even the CCC doesn't work like it should. You can't adjust the Fan or use the Overclock Controls either with the Control Panel it installs. PS: The Diamond Site does have some new Drivers for the 4890 Card that were released the 2'nd of April, the Drivers on the CD were from March 16'th, it's a 680mb download though & I'm not sure what version it is either other than it says 5.4. I'm downloading them now & will see what they are & give them a try later. |

You could go over to this AMD/ATI web site and pull down all the Catalyst Drivers, including 8.12. This may help you? Go away, I was asleep |

I just checked their download site and just drivers for WinXP alone is 633MB. Wonder what could be in there. An ISO for your OS? ;-) Jord. The BOINC FAQ Service. |

Have you renamed the files like you need to for the 9.x series drivers as per the readme file from gipsel? |

So far this is all I can get from the 4890 using the 8.60 Drivers which are the only ones I can get to install so far You'll need 8.12 or later to run the GPU app. I ran 8.12 for a while on my machine, and 9.3 seems to be working just fine with the fix specified in the readme file included with the app. |

Sigh, to all those that say use this or that 8.12 or 9 Series Driver I already posted several times that none of them will install, they start to & then say theres not a compatible ATI Card installed in the System for the Drivers. Again, the only Driver that will install is the v8.60 Driver that Diamond put on the CD that came with the Video Card. This Driver isn't even listed @ the ATI Site so I don't know where it came from & why I say the Cards Shipped out with Junk Drivers. The Catlyat Control Center doesn't even work like it should with them. I also know what I need to use as I am running 5 other 4780's in different systems. Jord, it is indeed an .iso file, I'm about to burn it to CD to see what it contains and give it a try. |

Keep us updated on your exciting saga!! (I am waiting for "took hammer and bashed in the stupid 4890 for not working") ;p ps - Good luck on your next attempt at firing it up. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

This Driver isn't even listed @ the ATI Site so I don't know where it came from The Catalysts 9.3 consist of the 8.591 Radeon display driver & CCC. The 4890s aren't in the release notes (PDF file), too new a card I suspect. Hence why your 8.60 drivers are the correct ones and newer, being hotfix drivers. Jord. The BOINC FAQ Service. |

This Driver isn't even listed @ the ATI Site so I don't know where it came from The .iso file Drivers wouldn't even install, their nothing but the 8.591 & 8.560 Drivers anyway so why their listed as being newer I don't know. All I got with them was "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current Hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit. Funny the 8.60 Drivers are installed already but the Setup on the .iso CD tells me I don't have a compatible card or operating system. Their the right Drivers as I checked & double checked on the CD already. It's impossible to get the wrong ones really as long as you pick the right card. I did get the CCC to work like it should so at least that's okay, but still can't run the WU's with it. I'll either have to wait for different Drivers that might work or send them back in a few days as their not doing me any good this way. |

Might need to wait for the next driver release then. Sounds like even the drivers that came with it aren't compatable. Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected? If it makes sense, DON'T do it. |

For fun I downloaded the 633MB package. It's not an ISO, but a zip file. Unzipped it and there's lots of stuff under the Docs directory including a very funny THX Shrek video and what I guess are drivers 8.503 for Vista (98MB) and XP (200MB). 200MB for XP drivers? What? What do they add? Their own operating system? Jord. The BOINC FAQ Service. |

The 661mb File I Downloaded was a zip file too, but when opened it had an .iso file inside and that's how I burned it as an .iso file to a CD. Anywho in the ATI/AMD Forum their saying a new 9.4 Driver is due out tomorrow & will support the new 4890 Cards. Whether it will work so you can run the WU's with it is to be seen yet. As of ATI Catalyst 9.4 (based on the 8.60 driver) – to be released April 2009, AMD will move a number of older ATI Radeon™ graphics accelerators products to a legacy driver support structure. This change will impact Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux distributions. AMD is moving to a legacy software support structure to better focus development resources on future products and ensure driver stability for these mature graphics products. But as you can see the 9.4 is based on the 8.60 Driver so I don't know if it will be anything different than what I have already or something new. |
