Again, the only Driver that will install is the v8.60 Driver that Diamond put on the CD that came with the Video Card. This Driver isn't even listed @ the ATI Site so I don't know where it came from

The Catalysts 9.3 consist of the 8.591 Radeon display driver & CCC. The 4890s aren't in the release notes (PDF file), too new a card I suspect. Hence why your 8.60 drivers are the correct ones and newer, being hotfix drivers.

So Catalyst 9.3 uses the 8.591 driver, while the 4890 needs the 8.6 driver, and Catalyst 8.6 came with a different driver... Who the heck came up with that numbering system?

The 661mb File I Downloaded was a zip file too, but when opened it had an .iso file inside and that's how I burned it as an .iso file to a CD.

Anywho in the ATI/AMD Forum their saying a new 9.4 Driver is due out tomorrow & will support the new 4890 Cards. Whether it will work so you can run the WU's with it is to be seen yet.

As of ATI Catalyst 9.4 (based on the 8.60 driver) – to be released April 2009, AMD will move a number of older ATI Radeon™ graphics accelerators products to a legacy driver support structure. This change will impact Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux distributions. AMD is moving to a legacy software support structure to better focus development resources on future products and ensure driver stability for these mature graphics products.

But as you can see the 9.4 is based on the 8.60 Driver so I don't know if it will be anything different than what I have already or something new.

Did you check for the renamed files in C:\Windows\System32? They're described in the app readme.

There are 3 ati & 3 amd files that are discribed in the Readme in the system32 directory, thats all I know to look for.

Ah, but that's not the first thing that the drivers are for. They're primarily used so you can see something on your monitor. ;-)
(And then run Crysis with everything on very high fluently)

Funny how they talk about a single slot design, but the card will take up two slots. It even has a double backplate! Besides, aren't all cards of single slot design? I've never seen a double slot design, wouldn't even know how to get one of those in, what with the amount of (read lack of) space one has in cases and on motherboards these days. ;-)

Well, there's still no Milkyway_GPU at http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway_gpu/, other than a directory listing pointing to the Parent directory (homepage of here). So perhaps it is time to try one out on a game. Oblivion, WOW, Crysis, Massive Multiplayer Online Patience ... :-D

I have updated zslip.com to say that the HD4890 has not yet been confirmed as working for these optimized apps.

Not that the fact that the HD4850/70 are working amounts to much if more diners are arriving at a shrinking pizza and everyone is screaming at a waiter who gets harder of hearing by the minute.

Seems like MilkyWay gives a good credit return, which doesn't really amount to much if you can't get the Work Units, and results in machines standing idle while looking for pizza. Not good for BOINC, is it...

I think the 4890 Cards should work, notice I said "should" but the Drivers just aren't compatible yet with the Application. If anyone has 1 running the WU's their not saying either.

I wouldn't know really. Apart from the fact that I had a RAC of 5,000 not very long ago and one of 150,000 in the last 2 weeks. And my credit total jumped from 3 Million to 10 million since January.

And that's with running less computers, swapping out just 3 graphic cards.

I'd say it seems like MilkyWay gives a good credit return.

Okay Ice, Whatever you say ... :)

Actually what I initially meant to say was that it 'seems' like MW give a good credit rate (because some people in this forum keep saying so), but that it is no good, whatever credit rate you're offering, if you can't give out the work.

However, the usual micro managing stops my machines from standing idle for so long wondering what to do. And no, in case anyone was wondering, I am not pushing in front of anyone to grab WUs that belong to them. I am simply turning up and asking for work, as everyone else is doing, and doing work that I can/wish, as eveybody else is doing.

I'm running 0.19e with CCC 8.12 on 1 x 4870, 2 x 3870. Works well for me... when there's WUs.
Keep up the good work, Ice.
Cheers,

I got around to trying the new 9.4 Cat Drivers from ATI/AMD & did get the Diamond 4890 to run the WU's, well at least 2 of them anyway since that's all I had left to run & haven't received anymore since then on that Box.

At first they didn't work, so I checked for the required amd files like the Readme states & they weren't in the system32 Directory. So I copied & renamed the 3 ati files like the Readme states and then the last 2 WU's I had ran okay.

Now all I have to do is sell them on E-Bay and get some more NVIDIA Cards & go get some WU's over @ the GPUGrid Project since it's next to impossible to get any here unless your in the select group of participants that seem to have no problem getting all they want ... :)
