The infinite credit drive is achieving even more optimization; 61,000 RAC... and rising...

You got a ways to go to catch Campaign's 248k RAC. Your only 28th. Quit being lazy. :P

Don't worry, I've turned a couple of rust buckets back on in my garage, from my ex 'farm'. I wanted to make it four, but the other two won't respond any more, their life of BOINC toil over. The big push for 248k RAC is on ;P

Ten grand is for pre-built, with at least 3 1060s. It could be done pretty easily for plus/minus three with one 1060 and one 280 or whatever

And you don't need an nVidia chipset. Check that other link I posted for reference systems - one of them is an Intel mobo.

My personal preference would be based on the coolness factor of how much RAC you can get from one box. Of course the nVidia Tesla cards require a CUDA-capable project. They do have one reference configuration that has four Tesla cards plus the on-board video. That would be formidable, to say the least!

I suppose one could build a 4-way crossfire box with 4870 X2s, and that would take some pretty serious PSUs (I don't know how it could be done with one) and cooling.

As it turns out, there were once power supplies that fit in 5 1/4 bays that supplied lots of 12V, designed just for PCIE connectors. Looks like they might not be made any more, though they may be available as refurbs.

To clarify: nVidia Tesla cards are strictly GPUs with no video connector, and can't be used in SLI. You DO have to have an nVidia-based mobo to implement SLI. In my research into CUDA, every indication has been that you CAN'T have SLI turned on, or you'll only get one GPU doing any processing. On the contrary, in some cases people have had to make a special plug to fool the second card into thinking they had a monitor hooked to it (if they didn't have two monitors). One would think this would be the case for the third vid card if you had one.

Someone needs to design the stand alone GPU BOINC board. It's just a rudementary OS and BOINC stored on a flash chip and several onboard GPUs. The new revolution in "farming".

Check out this bad boy - multiple nVidia GPUs, but no graphics ports. You just set up one or more of these and one graphics card (or on-board graphics) so you can see what's going on. nVidia has some reference systems specified, where you run three (or even FOUR!) of those monsters (C1060 "Tesla" GPUs) on the same mobo. Or, one can buy a box already configured.

Well watching that video all I need is $10K in throw away money and I can tell Ice to BEAT THAT!

Well! That core clock speed is certainly impressive, as is the price! It appears to be an infinite probability decison - that nVidia, or two brand new PCs with an ATI HD4870 in each - which would give more creditability? :p

Liquids that result in brownian motion. That is so wrong on multiple levels.

I was quoting Douglas Adams - what do I know? Realize that these are the stories that had a computer called "Deep Thought" that was built to find out the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything (which was 42), so they built an even BIGGER computer to find out what the question was.

That bigger computer was earth, which explains why nothing makes any sense here. Also, according to the story, we were never supposed to evolve into sentient beings.

BTW, one of the FTL ships in Adams books was called "Heart of Gold" ;^)

Anyway, the brownian motion is needed for the FTL drive, which is a simulation of a restaurant, because the rules of mathematics don't apply in restaurants.

Or maybe that was a different FTL drive. I may have two books mixed up.

At any rate, the books spoof practically everything, are well written, and quite funny.

I admit that I don't know anything about brownian motion, so I can't judge one way or the other. Others seem to agree with Mr. Adams, though: http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Brownian_motion
http://www.answers.com/topic/brownian-motion

I'm not proud of being ignorant of such things, and I was always far better with words than numbers.

Some good observations there Lloyd, and yes this thread is based on that very Heart of Gold, with the Infinite Improbability Drive, stolen by Zaphod Beeblebrox whose photo I added in my last post.

Improbability of my RAC reaching 83,000 is falling, but normality has not yet been achieved...
