[Edit} And some people think these forums are a mess!!!!! [/Edit]

The various BIONC forums pale in comparison to websites created by crazy people.

Yes, I should think that they take a rather dim view of such behavior (or should I say "behaviour").

And who the heck accuses someone of "vampirism and lycanthropy"?

Annual fund drives are one thing, but to be constantly bombarded with donation requests, put downs because you didn't have enough to spare because you had it invested in your equipment, electric bills, etc are what made me leave. Oh and the constantly lowering of the credits too. :-)

A couple of drastic reductions in credit, in short order, was enough for me. SETI barely gets any of my CPU cycles nowadays.

You'll read about it in various BIONC forums.

Silver stakes in order?

Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Uhhh, OK. I'll take your word for it. I'm not going to spend the time looking for something like that

That's what I like about KWSN - the forums are pretty much universally respectful, with studied silliness instead of the viciousness you see elsewhere.

I've just come back to the waking state for some recreation here, and someone says I am silly!

Well!

You are quite correct.

Then watch a Van Helsing / Underworld double feature for some great anti-monster combat techniques.

RAC of 150,000 reactivated, but normality has not yet been achieved.

Are the drives different than standard computers? 1 TB drives would be much larger. I've seen those for ~$100 on sale.

I believe they're 10,000rpm drives compared to a desktop standard of 7,200rpm. In enterprise at least, I know that speed is what it's all about, capacity second.

Server-grade drives with a spindle speed of 15,000 RPM aren't at all uncommon. That's nowhere near the whole story, though. The SATA and PATA interfaces used on desktop-grade drives are fairly CPU intensive (sort of like a winmodem), while the SCSI interface used on most server-grade drives operates at a much higher level, with most of the "housekeeping" done locally on the drive (sort of like an external modem).

Are Solid State drives worth while yet?

Depends on what you use it for, many ssd are fast but seems to have huge bottlenecks in certain situations especially in repeating tasks.
The only solutions are expenssive raid setups
Most of the time the raptors beat the ssd when this happens and cost a fraction of the ssd drives, the good ones still cost at least 350$ and up
