Well I knew that the fun was going to end soon. Well lets see I spend 1200.00 US dollars for Vid Cards then DA puts up a new area called CUP on our Boinc daily stats page. Well I guess I know where he is going with that.

I guess A guy just can't win...........

Did you read the first post of this thread?
It's not coming from David Anderson, it was an idea from Willy.
I wonder what should be bad on that, it's only another form of stats, you don't have to agree with it anyway if you don't like it.

Right... I see it as another way to down grade the points system. You can call it what you like.

waaaaa...

If you read about it. He says the other stats aren't changing. This is to see how much of ones credits come from each projects. And everyone can agree with the glut of gpu's recently that they are skewing the stats.
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected the expected?
If it makes sense, DON'T do it.

Also sounds like someone is a "little" self conscious about big #'s from very little work!

When I've got a dozen PCs maybe I'll do as much as 'very little work'.

Sorry to skew that stats, but right now I'm spewing WUs for my own and my team stats. Have to catch SETI.USA somehow... :P

No I'm not a "little" self conscious. I could do MW 24hrs and get more credits, but I prefer rosetta, so I don't get a lot of credits. There is a big difference between a Gpu that puts out 50k+/day and a pc that does 1-5k/day. They make the computers look anchient. So think what you may.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Everyone should contribute what they want/can.

That includes the time to build optimized apps, or the cash to pay for components which may or may not capture your imagination as you contribute to the science of this or any other project.

Its the "glut" of new technology has always skewed distributed computing projects, otherwise we'd still be using 486DX2s and Pentium 1s to keep the playingfield level ;)

Yep I agree. If I wanted I could buy numerous setups and put out tons of credit/work, but I choose not to. I'd rather have other things for other reasons. Gpus are great, I'd like one for gaming& crunching, but that'll be someday. My Ps3 & other systems fullfill that need. Those with Gpu's sure get a boost in credit & work done.

Haha yes, well...
[giggle]I was trying to say tho that when distributed.net, seti@home, genome@home etc were starting up, the type of hardware in use was more likely to be a Pentium75 than an abacus [\giggle]

HeHe! Seems I stirred the pot a little! Personally I like my collection of abacuses!

Well I have a AMD 6000+ dual core and a ATI HD 3870 graphics card and I don't use the GPU app as well. There may be others out there like us that got our cards for other purposes besides crunching for credits. I got mine so I get really good video quality for movies and pictures and such. And with my luck I'd fry the darn card and the !@#$ would hit the fan with the family.

That being said, those who have them and use them to crunch for credits are doing no less than I am, using it for the purpose for which it was obtained. I'm not worried about them blowing me away in credits because 99.9% of them did it a long time ago.. <smile>

Not always. I'm using the GPU app, but I got this card originally because it looked like a good performer on reviews and good on power usage. And I wasn't sure if a 9800GTX+ would fit in my case. ;)

I still do use it for stuff sometimes. There's one racing game in particular (TrackMania Nations Forever) that I love. Has great graphics to boot.
