I use my Mac Pro for work and getting real things done without hassles and viruses and the like... it also does reasonably well on BOINC. But, the BOINC world is aimed at the largest target population with is, and likely will be for a long time to come, the windows world. Tiger Direct has some "specials" where you can get a cheap box that wiould run you varying amounts to $1K US which you can then slowly modify / customize ... My "farm" such as it is these days is slowly shrinking but look like it will stabelize about 4 systems and most of those will be windows boxes that only do BOINC. If you want maximum BOINC, you have to go windows, if you want a good computer you have to go Apple ... if you want both, do both ... |

I do seem to get relatively good credits with yoyo@home's ecm application for 64-bit OS X (I compiled it too ;-) ). I've always had a fascination with prime numbers too, so that plays out well for me.

Yes, both MW and now YoYo seem to be trying to take advantage of the increased capabilities of the new Macs and that is all to the good. |
