Is anyone running or recently attempted to run the ATI app at F@H? I was thinking of fiddling with it this weekend but am unclear as to whether you can even run BOINC MW gpu app and F@H ATI app at the same time or even the BOINC and F@H programs themselves simultaneously... has anyone done this and how did the setup process go as F@H looks much more involved to get running? |

I tried F@H a while ago using the ATI app and it also tied up one of my processor cores as well. I uninstalled the app quickly. |

ATI F@H is easy enough to run, and it does tie up one of your CPUs as well. Personally I didn't see that much of a difference between CPU and GPU... Chances are there might be memory clashes if you run F@H and the MW both at the same, or just slow both down. Like trying to load two Firefox/IE windows on a single core. |

I usually run BOINC + Folding@Home GPU client, i have a Q9550 and a ATI 3870, and it run VERY well BOINC crunch his WU (only cpu of course) and Folding crunch happily his gpu WU, both without problem. And well, i suggest to use Folding@home to keep busy your GPU, it run well, has WU pretty long, stable WU and, most important, it don't interfere with your computer use (with the ATI app milkyway make my pc...well, not usable), you can even play videogames without problem (but i suggest to pause it when gaming) Installing it is VERY simple, download the client, install it and then put in a username and it will start crunching. I suggest you to go into the option and select "slightly higher" for the priority, so you are sure that the GPU will work always at 100% (your cpu will be used 5-10%) and that's all, happy crunching. Uh, useless to say, DON'T use both Folding GPU and milkyway GPU lol :P |

I'm not certain on the advances in the ATI app, but the nVidia app barely uses any of your CPU to run anymore. |

I usually run BOINC + Folding@Home GPU client, i have a Q9550 and a ATI 3870, and it run VERY well Thanks for the info try, good to know both programs will work at the same time... my two 4870 aren't doing anything for MW for lack of work to crunch so I'll give the Folding app a shot ;) >> try- did you check the 'Do NOT lock cores to specific CPU' box? http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinGPUGuide ... systray installation method |

I run F@H because it is the only distributed project which will use my low end 3450 graphics card. It does completely use a core, even after adjusting FLUSH_INTERVAL up, but the GPU produces a bit more than a core does and using the GPU is cool, so I left it. I hope they adjust the ATI app soon so that I doesn't waste a CPU core. They also need to adjust their deadlines because on this low end card, certain WU won't complete before the deadline. |

My config : Q9450 / 4 Go DDR 2@1020 / 2 DD SATA II / Vista 64 / 4850 Powercolor 512 Mo F@H : 6.23 Nov 26 2008 (on disk c:) 6 to 8 minutes for 1% boinc : 6.6.20 , (on disk d:) CAL : 1.40_Beta 32 MW : 0.19_AT_x64 catalyst: 6.3 Notice : if MW failed, never forget on the exe to unblock the program in its property (Vista64 protection) and and activate run under administrator.. with CCC? I UNDERCLOCK : GPU@600/ Memory@850Mhz and push Fan speed to 90%~95%: because it raise to 90° to 102°C sometime with both F@H and MW running. i buy an special cooler Scythe MUSASHI for 4850, i will receive it soon, to overclock the 4850 and use it more OR at its normal frequencies. What are your thermic level at work 80°C, 90°C or more for the 4850 ? FLUSH_INTERVAL ?? |
