Please keep discussions ON topic. It would be nice to read only about MilkyWay_GPU in this thread, and not browse through a lot of off-topic posts. Do we have admins here who keep the discussions under control? |

Please keep discussions ON topic. It would be nice to read only about MilkyWay_GPU in this thread, and not browse through a lot of off-topic posts. Do we have admins here who keep the discussions under control? Unless you are an admin you have no say where the discussion goes and when. As a forum user we have the option to both bring up new things, and change discussions without your permission. If you want updates on the server and project status I suggest you read the home page, or go to that section of the forum. As far as Vista, it did not get near the beta time that 7 is getting I do not think. Or at least there are far more people using the beta of 7 to help fix issues. Though besides this one no sound issue with 7 on one of my machines, that is a driver issue not directly OS. So I can overlook that. Also 7 definitely runs much faster than Vista on my test machine and even rivals XP's speed on it. As far as 'upgrades to XP' there are simply many people that do not like Vista's interface. I know I do not. It does not have near the quick options that XP did. You could get to everything from the control panel in XP you simply cannot do that in Vista still. While I have not really spent an inordinate amount of time on 7 I do like it better than Vista. |

Unless you are an admin you have no say where the discussion goes and when. I agree, why have any rime or reason to a Thread when it's much more fun to Trash it with useless & uniformative off Topic Posting just to drive up the good ole Post Count. |

And you remember that with vista that it was only 6 months or so after release that M$ offered an upgrade path to XP? Tiger direct will give you a copy of vista with a hard drive. Does that tell you something? Maybe Microsoft will just sell Vista for 50.00 so that Microsoft can clear out the shelves for another mistake.. DD, Bring back DOS..... |

I look at Vista like I did ME. They rushed it, paid for it and then released something worth while. I am by no means a fan of Vista, but at least it is familiar and I did not have to learn a new OS that would support my hardware. I think of it as a temporary contamination. Tiger direct will give you a copy of vista with a hard drive. Does that tell you something? Depends on the version of Vista... Oh wait what the hell an I saying... it is Vista... Unless you are an admin you have no say where the discussion goes and when. As I told the other one, forms are for discussing what comes up. If the topic changes deal with it or don't post. I did not change it, but I am not going to stand by and let people spout off about a change in topic. And if I were interested in only increasing my post count, I would not combine replies into one post... Any ETA on the MWGPU@HOME project? I'm kinda looking forward to having constant work. A quick read of the home page (you know the one before you choose to go to the forums) said that they compiled a python program only to find a bug that popped up. He is waiting to get permission from the heads of the experiment to correct it (rewrite a few lines in the code). They hope to have it sorted in a few days. |

Haha yes, its actually completely ready and I think Travis has the apps up. We're just working on getting the web server to redirect the page correctly. Dave Przybylo MilkyWay@home Developer Department of Computer Science Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute |

Great Dave. I look forwards to looking at the GPU MW site and fiddling with getting the work crunching (following the instructions you and Travis will give us - right?). Go away, I was asleep |

i guess i need to get my i7 pc build underway, current mobo can only support 1 GPU in PCI-E 16, but i could buy another gpu for pci? my i7 plans total around 1800 bucks(with tax). u can see my list here. http://www.xoohq.com/forums/showpost.php?p=65204&postcount=11 whats not on the list is another nv vid card, most likely another gtx 260 or higher. once new build is complete, i'll put my old ati 2600 xt back in this quad of mine. |

If you have only one PCIe, why not go for ATI 4850X2 ? That's what I have. 2 gpus! Cheers, Thorsten |

b/c seti and gpu don't support ati cards. if and when they go open source, i may buy one to replace my 2600 xt thats laying around. oh, yea another reason, for some reason, my vista hates catalyst. everytime i update it, it will never open correctly. |

Will the new GPU app Just Work without modfication of boinc or the milkway directory? Will it work like gpugrid and seti or do we need to treat it like an optimized app and go to zslip, dl new files and install them in the appropriate directories? |
